HAVEN - MONSTERS AND CRITICS: Lucas Bryant talks Haven: Season One DVD and Season Two on SyFy
By Anne Brodie Jun 10, 2011
Lucas Bryant is having the time of his thespian life on the supernatural series “Haven” based on a story by Stephen King.
Lucas plays Nathan Wuornos, a soft spoken but dedicated deputy in a tiny fishing village in Maine who has his hands full with his job and private life. His father (Nicholas Campbell) is the chief of police and their relations ship is complicated, to say the least.
He’s also dealing with Audrey (Emily Rose), an attractive a federal agent who has come to Haven to investigate “the troubles”, a series of deadly supernatural events that have plagued the town.
Monsters and Critics spoke with Bryant as he took a break from shooting an episode for Season 2 of the Showcase/SyFy series...
Lucas Bryant as Haven's Nathan Wournous
...M&C: What story lines appealed to you most in the first season that’s on DVD now?
Bryant: I really liked episode 3 called Harmony where I got to go totally crazy. I’m affected by the “troubles”. That made me wacko and I got into a big fight with Duke. Nathan’s a bit reserved so it freaked him out.
It was a blast to play that and then the Chameleon episode 9 which was fun. I went wacko we were all stuck in a big honking warehouse, and there were some big reveals. And the season finale!!! It was the perfect culmination of the first season. It all goes to hell in a great way!...
Season two of Haven premieres on Syfy Friday, July 15, 2011 at 10/9C.

TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY - AFTER ELTON: On the Set with Eve Myles, Kai Owen and Bill Pullman

The Torchwood universe sees a lot of changes in its new season, Miracle Day, which premieres on Starz July 8. For veteran cast members, it’s the first time that the series has filmed in Hollywood, half a world away from its original Cardiff setting. And with a new location comes new American cast members joining the show -- and new expectations from viewers.
During production, AfterElton had the opportunity to visit the famed Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif., where returning stars Eve Myles (who plays the Torchwood Institute’s Gwen Cooper) and Kai Owen (Gwen’s adoring husband Rhys) talked about the delightful culture shock of coming to sunny L.A., while newbie Bill Pullman (cast as infamous murderer and child-molester Oswald Danes) discussed becoming a part of this worldwide hit...
Bill Pullman as Oswald Danes
Bill Pullman
... AE: You have kind of a genre background, with Independence Day, Serpent and the Rainbow, and even Spaceballs – what has been your experience with the fan community, and do you sense more of that coming now that you’re involved with this show?
BP: I think it’s quite an interesting fanbase for Torchwood – this week, I did a project with astronauts, and a lot of people at NASA really like Torchwood. Marsha Ivins, who’s a retired astronaut, has always been a huge fan, and she’s bringing with her imaging from the photo department at NASA because they’re such big Torchwood fans and they wanted to get some images of Cardiff for Russell and Julie [Gardner of the BBC]. Very bright people get a little crazy about the whole thing...
Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper
Eve Myles
... AE: The history of the show has been, in a lot of ways, the history of you and Gwen. The show began through your character’s eyes, and as the show itself has become a global phenomenon, so have you. What’s the ride been like?
EM: Well, first of all, thank you very much – I think that’s very generous of you. But god, it’s been incredible, and it still is. I’ve had my family over here to do the show this year, and I have a 17-month-old child, and my dog, and my partner [Bradley Freegard], and we’ve all had to come over together, and it’s strange, because I feel like it’s just about to begin. It’s been a huge journey in the UK, you know, we’ve worked really hard to get the show to Hollywood, we’ve worked our asses off. We’ve had the gift and the payoff to take it to the hub of the industry that we’re in, and we’re making it the best that Torchwood could possibly be. We’re on a very exciting journey...
Kai Owen as Rhys Williams
Kai Owen
... AE: Torchwood is coming out of a really dark story line. What kind of place is Rhys in as this one begins?
KO: Coming off a tremendous story like Children of Earth so dark, it finds Rhys in the most perfect place on earth, really – in a lovely cottage in South Wales, overlooking the sea, with a beautiful wife, a beautiful daughter. He kind of wishes that he wasn’t in witness protection, in hiding, because they have to keep a low profile. They can’t go back to the city, so he probably doesn’t see his mates as much.
But when they do get the call to go back, he thinks he’s OK, but when he sees the story unraveling, it’s like wow, it’s happening all over again, and he doesn’t like that at all. And it just goes darker and darker and bigger and bigger. He starts out happy to be out of it, but then before you know it, slap-bang in the middle of it once more...

CAMELOT - TELEGRAPH (UK): Joseph Fiennes Interview
The actor tells Benji Wilson about playing Merlin as a Machiavellian fixer in Channel 4’s new fantasy saga.
by Benji Wilson
10 Jun 2011
Several questions arise in the early scenes of Channel 4’s Arthurian reboot Camelot. One: what is an actor of the calibre of Joseph Fiennes doing in what looks like a swords-and-sorcery epic? Two: given that he is playing Merlin, where’s his hair? Not only does Fiennes’s Merlin lack the flowing beard, the staff and the spells, but he has gone for a buzzcut. And three: when did epic fantasy switch from being the nerdy stuff that the Dungeons & Dragons kids played at break time to something that is currently asking for consideration as serious television?
Because undoubtedly that is what Camelot, made for a small fortune by the American cable network Starz, aspires to be. And put it alongside HBO’s Game of Thrones, Starz’s own Pillars of the Earth last year (and not forgetting the BBC’s Merlin) and it marks 12 months in which fantasy has made a bid for credibility, using some fine British actors to do it.
Joseph Fiennes as Merlin
Fiennes, for his part, had his own misgivings about going medieval.
“When I was told Camelot, Merlin, I wasn’t quite sure – I felt like I’d seen it once or twice before. But I liked the idea that this was a dark retelling and not an off-the-shelf production. So I thought let’s dispense with the long beard and maybe move away from the magic – move him to be more of a political thug. Really a man whose powers lie in politics, psychology and negotiation, within the halls of power...”
Camelot begins on Saturday at 9pm on Channel 4 [in the UK], and in the US, Camelot's season one finale airs Friday, June 10 at 10/9C on Starz.

Torchwood: Miracle Day Special Look. Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres July 8th at 10p e/p on STARZ.
An Original Series by STARZ
One day, nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging — they get hurt and sick — but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight.
With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month's time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?", he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.
“Torchwood,” premiering July 8, stars John Barrowman (“Torchwood”, “Desperate Housewives”) as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles (“Torchwood”, “Little Dorrit") as Gwen Cooper, Mekhi Phifer (“ER”, “Lie to Me”) as Rex Matheson and Bill Pullman (While You Were Sleeping, Independence Day) as Oswald Danes. Also co-stars Lauren Ambrose, Alexa Havins, Arlene Tur and Kai Owen.
