The 2012 Leo Awards were held on May 25/26 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The Leo Awards are a project of the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation of British Columbia, Canada. This year, Sanctuary's Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne were the hosts of the Gala Awards Ceremony on May 26.

Leo Awards are the awards program for the British Columbia film and television industry, celebrating excellence in artistic achievement. Held in Vancouver, Canada, the Leo Awards honour nominees and winners in 13 program categories and up to 19 craft categories.

The Celebration Awards Ceremony will be held Friday, May 25 and the Gala Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 26, at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver, BC, Canada.



The 2012 Leo Awards Hosts are Sanctuary's Amanda Tapping. Amanda is thrilled to be co-hosting the Leo Awards this year with her friend and co-conspirator Robin Dunne.

Amanda Tapping spent the last four years starring in, directing, and executive producing Sanctuary, and the previous 11 years running around in army boots [NOTE: actually, air force boots] saving the planet from aliens in Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Ms. Tapping recently completed three films: Space Milkshake, Random Acts of Romance, and Taken Back, and is currently in the director's chair for three episodes of Primeval: New World.

In 2009, Ms. Tapping co-founded the charity Sanctuary for Kids that helps children in crisis around the world. She also volunteers at her daughter's school that is by far her most frightening gig yet! Yes, she's a classic under achiever. Her parents are terribly disappointed.




Robin Dunne is excited to be co-hosting the Leo Awards this year with his evil twin Amanda Tapping.

Robin is best known for his work as Dr. Will Zimmerman on the Vancouver-based hit show Sanctuary.

He also recently starred in and produced the sci-fi comedy film Space Milkshake due to be released this summer.

Robin's other accomplishments include: being thrown out of the Opus Hotel for removing his pants in the bar and making love to Jennifer Connelly in a dream.

This year’s red carpet ran a hundred feet or so along the skinny West Georgia street corridor on the north side of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, and the crush got a little intense. The Straight had a few brief words with Amanda Tapping at the gala event on Saturday (June 11) as she made her way inside. The star of Sanctuary was nominated for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series (the trophy went to Carmen Moore, for Blackstone). Tapping was also a presenter at the awards gala...

Georgia Straight: I’m surprised nobody’s been hit by a bus.

Amanda Tapping: "I know! But it’s a cool vibe tonight. It’s the little awards that people kinda laugh at sometime, but I think for us in the industry it’s a great opportunity to share with each other what we’re doing here. And the fact that there’s so much indigenous product happening in Vancouver right now, we’re not just the service industry that we were for so long. I think we’re all very proud of that. I know that all sounds very heady, and goofy, but it’s nice to actually be part of an indigenous industry, when the industry is failing in so many ways all over the place..."
