K9 - SYFY: MARATHON SCHEDULE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2012

Get ready for a Christmas gift like no other. On Tuesday, December 25 - Christmas Day - Syfy will be airing an all-day marathon (and the U.S. premiere) of the Doctor Who spinoff, K9.

K9 follows the adventures of the robotic canine created by British writers Bob Baker and Dave Martin and first seen in the original 1978 season of Doctor Who. The show mixes live action with stunning CGI and special effects and pits the robot dog K9 and his teenage friends against a number of human and alien adversaries. The new dog is voiced by the legendary John Leeson, who voiced the original K9 from the 1978 Doctor Who series.

Creator Bob Baker has won a number of BAFTAs for his co-writing of the hugely successful Wallace and Gromit shorts and feature, and together with his business partner Paul Tams, was closely involved in the creation of the new K9 series.

All 26 episodes will air on December 25 starting at 10 am ET.

K9 cast includes Robert Moloney (Professor Alistair Gryffen), Keegan Joyce (Starkey), Philippa Coulthard (Jorjie Turner), Daniel Webber (Darius) and Robyn Moore (June Turner).

10:00 AM Regeneration

Whilst Starkey (Keegan Joyce) and Jorjie (Philippa Coulthard) are trying to escape the police they take refuge in a large detached house, now the residence of reclusive scientist, Professor Gryffen (Robert Moloney).

Inside the dilapidated mansion, they see Gryffen absorbed in an experiment with a strange piece of alien technology, a Space Time Manipulator. Darius (Daniel Webber) an artful dodger who, among his many occupations, runs errands for Gryffen, confronts the pair, but at that moment a portal opens and through the hole torn in the fabric of space/time burst two reptilian warrior Jixen. The Jixen try to attack Starkey but the teenager is saved by a small dog-like robot, K9 Mark I.

In the ensuing battle, the only way K9 can defeat the Jixen is to blow himself and them to pieces. One surviving Jixen limps out of the mansion. Before expiring, K9 is able to give instructions that allow Starkey to initiate a regeneration program. A new, more sophisticated and futuristically designed K9 is regenerated.

Guest stars include Sophia Emberson-Bain and Michael Thomson.

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES: Meredith Baxter, Michael Gross know how to make fake marriage work

Brought together 30 years ago to be husband and wife on 'Family Ties,' they've kept a strong bond. They star on 'Naughty or Nice' on the Hallmark Channel.

By Susan King
November 23, 2012

Meredith Baxter recalls that when she met Michael Gross 30 years ago at the first table read for the award-winning NBC sitcom, "Family Ties," she gave the lanky actor cast as her husband a good once-over.

"I am thinking my first words to him were, 'You need a tan!,'" she said, laughing. "He is a New Yorker and I am born and raised in Los Angeles."

Three decades after that first encounter, they are playing husband and wife once again in the Hallmark Channel holiday film, "Naughty or Nice," which premieres Saturday on the cable network. The two play Carol and Walter Kringle, a pleasant couple who love the holidays so much they named their daughter Krissy (Hilarie Burton). After Krissy loses her job in an advertising company, Carol gets her a job wrapping Christmas presents at the mall.

For fans, the roles will bring back fond memories of the Keatons, the couple played by Baxter and Gross in "Family Ties." Baxter and Gross played former hippies Elyse and Steve Keaton, still expounding liberal values in the world of Reaganomics. The series made a star out of Michael J. Fox, who played their conservative Republican son Alex. Justine Bateman played teenage daughter Mallory and Tina Yothers was youngest daughter Jennifer.

Gross was a self-described "theater snob" when he auditioned for the series. "I didn't watch prime-time television," said Gross. In fact, he had never seen Baxter in her other TV work, including the popular series "Bridget Loves Bernie" and "Family..."
