Vampire Diaries - LA Times Show Tracker: Nina Dobrev on juggling good and evil

SHOW TRACKER: 'The Vampire Diaries': Nina Dobrev on juggling good and evil
January 20, 2011
Nina Dobrev is going a little crazy. The actress plays the dual roles of sweet, innocent Elena and evil, naughty vampire Katherine on the CW's "The Vampire Diaries," which finally will return Jan. 27 with a new episode. It's a challenging job that at one point this season called for Dobrev to play opposite herself during a tense heart-to-heart between Elena and Katherine, as well as play Katherine during her human days in 1400s Bulgaria, Katherine masquerading as a Brit and Katherine as a newly made vampire all in one episode.
"It’s not easy, and I think I'm slowly becoming a schizophrenic because of it," Dobrev said during the CW's Kick-Ass Women panel at the TCA Press Tour last week. At a cocktail party after the event, she spoke further with a small group of reporters, including Show Tracker, about getting to play two such diametrically opposed characters.
"Elena, I get to do a lot of emotional scenes. She goes through such a roller-coaster ride," she said. "With Katherine, I just get to [mess] with everyone. I just get to play around and have fun and be bad and get away with things that all throughout my life I've been taught by my parents not to do. Now I get paid for it..."

MEDIA BLVD MAGAZINE: Actor Adam Baldwin, "Chuck," Discusses his Career, "Firefly," & More!
Sunday, 23 January 2011
By Frederic Germay
Actor Adam Baldwin has starred in a number of critically acclaimed movies and television shows. In legendary film director Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket, Baldwin played the character of Animal Mother, and he’s had roles in “The X-Files,” “Day Break,” “Independence day,” and more. However, Baldwin achieved a devoted cult following after starring in Joss Whedon’s short-lived “Firefly” series as the lovably gruff Jayne Cobb. Baldwin can now be seen as NSA agent John Casey on NBC’s charming spy show, “Chuck,” on Mondays at 8/9c.
Baldwin took the time out of his busy schedule to discuss his lengthy and impressive career with MediaBlvd in June of 2009, and the interview aired on MediaBlvd’s popular radio show, “Purple Haze.” However, this interview is now being published for the first time in print exclusively for the MediaBlvd audience...
... MediaBlvd> Have you ever been worried about being ‘typecast’ as a certain type of character?
Adam> Well, I’m tall so I’m going to be typecast as tall. I’m strong, so I’m going to be typecast as that. I can be mean…but again, I go back to thanking Chris Carter and Joss Whedon for allowing me to get into characters that while dangerous, had a sense of humor. The character I played in “The X-Files,” Knowle Rohrer, there wasn’t a lot of room for humor, but I still tried to play him with a little bit of a twinkle. That allowed me to kind of get involved with Joss, and that really gave me a lot of confidence to play that kind of character. So, if I’m stuck playing a funny tough guy for the rest of my life, that wouldn’t be that bad of a gig. If that’s typecasting…Eddie Murphy is typecast as a funny man and I don’t think he minds too much. And I’m no Eddie Murphy! [laughs] I’m just happy to be here.
