MEDIA BLVD MAGAZINE: Actor Adam Baldwin, "Chuck," Discusses his Career, "Firefly," & More!

Actor Adam Baldwin has starred in a number of critically acclaimed movies and television shows. In legendary film director Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket, Baldwin played the character of Animal Mother, and he’s had roles in “The X-Files,” “Day Break,” “Independence day,” and more. However, Baldwin achieved a devoted cult following after starring in Joss Whedon’s short-lived “Firefly” series as the lovably gruff Jayne Cobb. Baldwin can now be seen as NSA agent John Casey on NBC’s charming spy show, “Chuck,” on Mondays at 8/9c.

Baldwin took the time out of his busy schedule to discuss his lengthy and impressive career with MediaBlvd in June of 2009, and the interview aired on MediaBlvd’s popular radio show, “Purple Haze.” However, this interview is now being published for the first time in print exclusively for the MediaBlvd audience...

... MediaBlvd> Have you ever been worried about being ‘typecast’ as a certain type of character?

Adam> Well, I’m tall so I’m going to be typecast as tall. I’m strong, so I’m going to be typecast as that. I can be mean…but again, I go back to thanking Chris Carter and Joss Whedon for allowing me to get into characters that while dangerous, had a sense of humor. The character I played in “The X-Files,” Knowle Rohrer, there wasn’t a lot of room for humor, but I still tried to play him with a little bit of a twinkle. That allowed me to kind of get involved with Joss, and that really gave me a lot of confidence to play that kind of character. So, if I’m stuck playing a funny tough guy for the rest of my life, that wouldn’t be that bad of a gig. If that’s typecasting…Eddie Murphy is typecast as a funny man and I don’t think he minds too much. And I’m no Eddie Murphy! [laughs] I’m just happy to be here.
