ALPHAS - METRO: Azita Ghanizada: Not your normal super hero

by NED EHRBAR
August 07, 2011

Afghan-American actress Azita Ghanizada has been a TV lover all her life — and in fact says it’s how she learned English. So the success of her new Syfy series, “Alphas,” has been especially rewarding for her. In the series, Ghanizada plays Rachel, a member of a team individuals with special abilities. (Rachel can heighten individual senses at the expense of others.) Metro caught up with Ghanizada to talk about working with her heroes, the new series’ impassioned fans and staying away from fan fiction...

... Metro: In tonight’s episode, you also get to work with guest-star Lindsay Wagner.

Azita Ghanizada: "I got to talk at length with her about what it was like to be a female TV star in the 70s on “The Bionic Woman” and breaking that ground, and she was just so cool. And then when we’re shooting, I went to do my super-hearing, and she just smirked a little bit. She’s like, “I used to be you.” I was like, “Oh my God, right!” — I mean, way cooler. She was a badass. Rachel’s growing into that. But what an iconic moment for me for someone who really shifted television for women in the 70s, and she sort of pointed at me and was like, “Rachel is sort of who I was.” So that was a really big treat..."

EUREKA - EURWEB: Salli Richardson Whitfield Discusses Her ‘Eureka’ Directorial Debut and More!

By: Ricardo A. Hazell
August 7, 2011

Salli Richardson Whitfield is remembered by many as a more than capable actress with visual beauty of show-stopping proportions. But Salli has proven time and time again that she is far more than just a pretty face, as was illustrated in the hit indie film “I Will Follow” (available on DVD, Aug. 23, 2011).

Though her chops were on full display in that offering, science fiction fans have been tuning in to watch her play Dr Allison Blake on SyFy’s “Eureka” for since the 2006 TV season. In that span Ms. Richardson Whitfield’s aspirations have expanded past merely being in front of the camera. She has recently directed two episodes of the show, the first of which is slated to air Monday (tonight) at 8pm.

I had the chance to speak with her regarding this wonderful opportunity as well as the absence of African Americans in the sci-fi genre, her career longevity and more...

... “My first episode airs (tonight, Monday, August 8), but I’ve already finished my second episode of directing,” said Richardson Whitfield. “What’s great about my episode is that it’s female driven so not only is the director me, a woman, but I have all the girls from other episodes there. It’s big action and movement, which I found that I love to direct. I like a fast moving pace. The second one I’ve directed is the same kind of thing. It’s a disaster episode with a lot of things happening. It’s really giving me a chance to do something things that most women don’t get a chance to do in film and TV. They never get a chance to do visual effects or action stuff. They’re always given drama. ‘Omega Girl’ airs Monday, and the second, which you probably won’t see until next year, is called ‘Worse Case Scenario’...

WAREHOUSE 13 - THE MORTON REPORT: The Nielsen Report: Interview With Warehouse 13's Saul Rubinek

By Steve Eramo
August 8, 2011

Having been for several years the Secret Service agent in charge of the mysterious government repository called Warehouse 13, Artie Nielsen knows only too well the dangers that certain historical artifacts pose to the world and why it is so important for his team to snag, bag, and tag them as quickly as possible.

He is just as insightful when it comes to assessing the true character of those around him. In season two of Warehouse 13, Artie was the only one who objected to reinstating former warehouse agent H.G. Wells to active duty. He was overruled and H.G. accompanied fellow agents Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering on a mission to Egypt to find the legendary lost Warehouse 2. They succeeded, and in the season two finale “Reset,” H.G. tried to use an artifact she stole from Warehouse 2 to trigger another ice age on Earth. Luckily, Myka stopped her in the nick of time. While Artie was not surprised at H.G’s betrayal, the actor who plays him, Saul Rubinek, initially had no idea what to expect with this episode...

... “As a cast we’re fortunate in that we have read-throughs of the episode that we’re going to be doing next about a week before shooting actually begins on it,” says Rubinek. “However, because we’re so busy filming, we don’t get the chance to read scripts too much in advance, so when we do, they’re always page-turners thanks to the amazing group of writers we have working on this show.

“The whole concept for us of the lost Warehouse was wonderful, and it also looked huge. It looked like we were doing a multi-million dollar movie, and you wondered, ‘How are they going to get this all done in an eight-day shooting schedule?’ Well, we also have a super visual effects [VFX] team here on Warehouse 13 along with some of the best designers on television today..."

BEING HUMAN - BUZZ FOCUS: Exclusive Interview: Sam Huntington Discusses ‘Being Human’ Season 2 & Gets Attacked by Co-Star Sam Witwer

By Ernie Estrella
August 8, 2011

Comic book fans may recognize Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns (2006), Human Target (episode 104: “Sanctuary”) and most recently the film adaptation of the Italian horror-private eye comic, Dylan Dog: Dead of the Night sharing the screen once again with co-star Brandon Routh. On television, Huntington has made a habit out of playing characters in need of some serious grooming. In 2007-08, Huntington played Andy of the Cavemen, the ABC comedy based on the Geico Insurance characters and now his most prominent role is his current one on Syfy’s hit adaptation of Being Human.

Huntington recently spoke with us about his role of Josh the werewolf on Being Human, the growth of his neurotic character, what we may or may not see in this upcoming season as well all the possible places Josh and Nora will undergo their monthly transformation. In the middle of our interview, co-star Sam Witwer tried to rattle Huntington’s cage by sneaked up on him like a stealthy vampire. When Huntington’s Spidey Sense went off, he turned around and well, let’s just say they shared a moment.

The second season of Being Human returns to the Syfy network in January of 2012.
