FALLING SKIES - TV GUIDE: RETURNING SUMMER SHOWS - WHERE WE LEFT OFF

Falling Skies (TNT)

Premieres: Sunday, June 17 at 9/8c

Where We Left Off: After the resistance finally caused serious damage to the aliens, an overlord — speaking through Karen (Jessy Schram) — invited Tom (Noah Wyle) onto their ship to talk. He went onto the spaceship in hopes of freeing Ben (Connor Jessup) from the harness, but with the possibility that he would never return again.

What's Next: Tom does return! But his reunion with the 2nd Mass is not an easy one. Plus, Ben deals with the lasting effects of the harness, which puts him at odds with his brother Hal (Drew Roy). There's also more alien tech we've yet to see or understand, and it's introduced in several squirm-inducing scenes.

Falling Skies cast includes Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Peter Shinkoda, Colin Cunningham, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Sarah Carter, Seychelle Gabriel and Ryan Robbins.

THE CLOSER - TV GUIDE: RETURNING SUMMER SHOWS - WHERE WE LEFT OFF

The Closer (TNT)

Premieres: Monday, July 9 at 9/8c

Where We Left Off: Brenda's (Kyra Sedgwick) name was dropped from the lawsuit brought against the LAPD by the family of Turrell Baylor, but her name wasn't completely cleared: The department instated "The Johnson Rule" — that no suspect can be let out of police custody in a hostile environment — which basically still implies Brenda's responsibility for Baylor's murder.

What's Next: Raydor (Mary McDonnell) and Pope (J.K. Simmons) will continue searching for the leak in the department. But with Brenda increasingly feeling she has no one to trust in the department, expect her to find it harder than ever to keep her job. And her trouble with lawyers are far from over: The series culminates with the return of Phillip Stroh (guest star Billy Burke), the slimy attorney who Brenda has always suspected as a serial rapist. Will she finally be able to prove it in time to (possibly) go out on top?

The Closer cast includes Kyra Sedgwick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Tenney, Phillip P. Keene, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, G.W. Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Anthony John Denison and Raymond Cruz.

SECOND ANNUAL CRITICS' CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS NOMINEES

June 05, 2012
by Sean O'Connell

The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), an offshoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, today announced nominations for the 2nd annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Winners will be announced on the evening of Monday, June 18th, at a gala awards dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

NBC was the most nominated broadcast network with 14 nominations followed closely by ABC with 13 and FOX with 12. HBO led nominations for cable networks with 12, followed by AMC and FX with 11 nominations each. NBC’s Community was the most nominated series with six.

The Critics’ Choice Television Awards honors programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. Since last year, six new categories have been added for the 2011/12 season including Best Movie or Mini-series, Best Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series, Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series and Best Animated Series.

“We are very excited by these nominations, reflecting the amazing diversity and creativity that is exploding on the small screen today,” said Joey Berlin, acting president of BTJA. “In every genre, audiences are witnessing a New Golden Age where imagination knows no bounds, from mass appeal entertainment to quirky originals where one person’s unique vision can delight a more limited audience. As television journalists, we’re proud to offer our choices of the best that we see day in and day out, and we look forward to celebrating television’s best on June 18th.
