... As Cheered earlier this week, Carla Gugino's return to the world of Elmore Leonard in Justified — she embodied his Karen Sisco for a too-fleeting moment back in 2003 — was one of the week's special treats. Packing heat in every way imaginable as Assistant Director Goodall, investigating a deadly breach in the local witness protection system, she clearly had some history with Raylan back in Miami. But she appears to get the message when he plants a big kiss on his pregnant ex Winona right in front of her. The episode is also a good one for the often underused Nick Searcy as Raylan's boss, Art, who gets the upper hand on the villain-of-the-week; and for Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder, who manipulates the prison system so he can get some alone time with the petrified Dickie — thanks to a corrupt guard (Todd Stashwick) looking the other way — and make clear his claim on Mags' buried loot.

Which leads us to the episode's most significant new character: the electrifying Mykelti Williamson (formerly of Boomtown) as local holler legend Ellstin Limehouse — what a name! — whose menacing soliloquy, while butchering meat, to a petrified young night watchman lets us know he's no one to be trifled with. "Some dogs will take you not giving them the pain they deserve as weakness. Got no choice but to put that dog down." As the boy's dad leads him away, we see the long-ago scars on the old man's hand from the lye punishment Limehouse was threatening to administer to the kid. Let's take odds now on who'll win the inevitable showdown between Limehouse and Boyd Crowder...

(We know the show is canceled and the sets are torn down, but would anybody really be surprised if NBC renewed it for a three-episode season six or something? Just to screw with everybody?) Anyway, Ryan McGee will be with you in this vigil, Chuck fans.

SERIES FINALE: At the cliffhanger teaser for the end of last week’s episode, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski), brainwashed by villains with all memory of her time with Chuck (Zachary Levi) erased, was given orders for her latest “mission” – to kill Chuck. But however this series will end tonight, that won’t be the way. Pictures released in advance show the heroes reunited, ready to take on the bad guys for one last stand. The real villains on this series, though, were the scriptwriters, who went downhill quickly after the first season.

FILM.COM: The Top 5 Chucktastic Moments

Chuck comes to end tonight on NBC, and in celebration of The Little Show That Could, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite moments from its five improbable seasons.

I could have done an almost endless permutation of lists here, guys. Best kisses. Funniest lines. Best Casey grunts. Best guest stars. Best use of 80s music. Best homage to an old spy movie. Best Sarah kicks so much ass fight. Best Sarah skimpy outfits. The most awesome Awesome moments. Best use of a train. Best fight scene. Most romantic moments. Saddest moments. Best use of Morgan as a spy . . . I’m telling you, endless.

But in the end, I decided to go for the big moments. Chuck as a show has always known how to make the most out of its semi-serialized nature, and it certainly knows how to throw a mean finale (it’s had at least six by now). You put those two things together and the payoff is moments like these five* below, rich in action and emotion and that wacky Chuck humor we’ve all come to love. ... 5. Chuck Versus Shaw

“Chuck Versus The Other Guy” was the first of Chuck‘s almost-finales, and what a doozy. Rogue CIA agent Daniel Shaw (Brandon Routh) has turned on his former partners for the cause of vengeance (Sarah was ordered to kill Shaw’s wife years back, and it doesn’t matter to him that his wife was a traitor, he just wants Sarah to pay). In Paris for a mission, Shaw drugs Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) with a paralytic and plans to throw her in the river, but Chuck (Zachary Levi) shows up just in time. He is unable to defeat Shaw using his Intersect Superpowers (in season three, the Intersect was often on the fritz because Chuck’s emotions would get in the way), so he follows Shaw to the bridge. Shaw doesn’t think Chuck has it in him to murder someone, but he underestimates just how much Chuck loves Sarah. Chuck shoots Shaw in the chest (almost pulling Sarah over with him), and he falls into the river, presumably dead. Later, Chuck and Sarah finally finally get together. Shaw is Chuck’s scariest baddie because, like Chuck, he does everything for love. It’s a tense, well-written sequence that pays off three years of story...
