TV GUIDE: Matt's TV Week in Review

Apr 13, 2012
by Matt Roush

... Slowly but surely, and severely, HBO's triumphant Game of Thrones continues to expand its world, this week sending Stark ward Theon Greyjoy back to the Iron Islands and Pyke for a most unwelcoming reunion with his hard-as-stone father, who rejects the treaty with Robb's army while making it clear he favors his warrior daughter Yara to lead his charge. At Dragonstone, the equally humorless Stannis Baratheon continues to plot his attack, but first ravages the fire priestess Melisandre on the battleground map — metaphor much? And while we're always happy to catch up with little Arya, who's in hiding with Robert's bastard Gendry en route to The Wall, the episode is stolen (as usual) by Peter Dinklage's Tyrion, who cleverly deposes the King's Watch commander after carrying out Joffrey's baby slaughter and later spars memorably with the wicked Cersei...

Game of Thrones airs Sunday at 9/8C on HBO.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES - CLEVVER TV VIDEO FEATURETTE; SEASON FOUR WELCOMES NEW VILLAIN

We haven't seen the end of season 3 for the Vampire Diaries, but thanks to some new scoop from the show's executive producer Julie Plec, we're already excited about season 4. Plec just chatted with the Hollywood Reporter about what we have to look forward to as season 3 comes to a close, revealing that the final four episodes will pack in everything from romance to a possible death, and of course more on Elena's dilemma of maybe being in love with 2 vampires. The decade dance will also be featured, and Plec confirmed that Elena will be asking Stefan, which will ignite more romantic tension with Damon. And FYI -- she added the night won't end well overall.

As far as season four is concerned, Plec and her writing team are already very excited. She told THR that they already have some amazing character moves in the works, which most definitely will include new mystery and a new villain capable of giving Klaus a run for his original hybrid money. What or who this could possibly be, we have no idea, but we'd love to hear your guesses. Keep it here at ClevverTV 24-7 for TVD scoop as it breaks -- and you can do that by subscribing to our channel on YouTube. I'm Joslyn Davis, see you next time!

NATURE - PBS VIDEO: 'RIVER OF NO RETURN' SNEAK PEEK # 2 - AN ANCIENT GAME - AIRS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 2012 AT 8/7C

After reaching Chamberlain Basin, Isaac and Bjornen Babcock come across white-tailed deer and their first glimpse of wolves in almost two months. The wolves and deer pay no attention. They're already intent on an ancient game.

Deep in the heart of Idaho lies the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, part of the largest roadless area left in the lower 48 states. At 2.5 million acres, it is larger than Yellowstone, yet most people have never even heard of it. Designated a federally-protected wilderness in 1980 by Congress, the region is full of deep canyons and mountain forests, rivers and abundant wildlife. Otters and elk, deer and coyotes, blue birds and bighorn sheep, and newly-restored wolf populations all thrive there. Today, nine packs of wolves roam freely through the park, each pack dependent on family — raising their young and hunting together.

Working with the Nez Perce Tribe in Central Idaho, wolf biologist Isaac Babcock spent 13 years participating in the wolf reintroduction program organized in the area. Wanting to share the raw beauty of the land and the wolves with his new wife, Bjornen, Isaac proposes spending a year there as an unconventional honeymoon, documenting their days as they go along. River of No Return tells their story, the story of a couple that took on the wilderness and all its challenges. The two have come to treasure their experience in an untamed place that, for a period of time, they called home.
