MTV GEEK NEWS: Exclusive Interview: Alaina Huffman Talks Smallville, Stargate Universe, and Agent Mom

by Alex Zalben January 27, 2011

Alaina Huffman is very, very busy. She's playing the recurring role of Black Canary on Smallville, Lt. Tamara Johansen on Stargate Universe, co-creating a comic for this very website, maintaining a busy convention schedule, and-if that wasn't enough-is the mother of three children, including a thirteen-month-old. Thankfully, the hard-working actress took some of her time to talk to us about all of the above-and why she geeks out hardest at...The news?

... Geek: Let's talk about that a bit. How are you and the rest of the cast dealing with the cancellation of Stargate Universe?

AH: You know, I'm so, so grateful for the last two years, and all the relationships, and the huge family that I literally got cast into. Sixteen seasons of the two other shows, and it's all the same crew. The only thing that's really different is the cast. It's sad for everybody. I feel really bad for the whole crew. I know everyone will move on, everyone is really talented-both in the production office, the writers, the creators, and the cast and crew. When you've got a good thing, and you love going to work, and you've got a beautiful family there, it's sad...But it's also sort of bittersweet. It's nice to have the opportunity to do other things, and for me, I'm happy either way, I'm grateful for the two seasons we had. I get to come back to LA, I have my family, and my house, and I'm looking for the next opportunity. I've got my comic book, Smallville is still going on, so maybe something there...

BOSTON HERALD: Outspoken nature earns Shahi role on character-driven ‘Fairly Legal’

By Amy Amatangelo
Thursday, January 27, 2011

Sarah Shahi auditioned for “Fairly Legal” five weeks after giving birth to her son.

“I went into the audition wearing my husband’s T-shirt, Nike running pants, a blazer and heels because that’s the only thing that fit me,” Shahi said during a recent conference call with reporters to promote the USA Network series (tonight at 10). “They called and said that they really like me, but they thought I was wearing some interesting wardrobe.”

Despite her questionable attire, producers wanted her for the starring role of Kate Reed, an ex-lawyer turned professional mediator. But Shahi, who had previously starred in “The L Word” and “Life,” wasn’t sure she wanted the grind of another series. For two seasons, she had worked 18 hours a day on “Life,” only to see the show canceled...

FANBOLT: Interview: Candice Accola From 'The Vampire Diaries'

by Emma on January 26, 2011

I visited the set of The Vampire Diaries a few weeks back, and had the opportunity to speak with several members of the cast about what the rest of the season had in store for our favorite characters. The second person I had the opportunity to speak was Candice Accola. It was my first time meeting Candice, and it's amazing how she can light up a room. Her laugh is contagious, and you can't help but smile when she's smiling. She's just the cool laid-back girl next door who happens to be gorgeous.

The question I received the most for Candice from TVD fans was about the ever developing love triangle between Caroline, Matt, and Tyler. When I asked Candice about it, she smiled and paused mentioning she was trying to find the right way to word it without directly answering the question, but I thought her response gave a decent amount of insight into what we can expect over the upcoming episodes.

"That's what makes that type of circumstance really exciting is that you really don't know what's going to happen, and I don't really know either because we're only a couple episodes ahead. It's really up to the writers at this point. If you really look at the relationship though, Matt is Caroline's first love, but there are just certain things that they can't relate on anymore. She's gone through a very traumatic experience in her life, and that's something that even though Caroline and Tyler aren't alike in any ways, but that traumatic experience created such an unbreakable bond between them, and created a new friendship. A lot of adult relationships grow out of really wonderful friendships. So they're two very different kinds of relationships, they'd be two very different romantic relationships as well." Candice replied...

COLLIDER: Executive Producer Kevin Williamson Interview THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

by Christina Radish Posted: January 26th, 2011

The CW’s popular TV series The Vampire Diaries returns on January 27th with all-new episodes that will lead up to what promises to be a dramatic Season 2 finale. No one is safe, as the tension is heightened by the promise of ancient vampire Klaus’ desire to sacrifice the doppleganger, aka Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), and blood is sure to be shed.

In this recent interview, show creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson talked about how they’re expecting some big game-changers and lots of bloodshed before the season is over, how they’re currently going through about 100 auditions for possible actors to play Klaus, that the vampire-werewolf relationship between Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) will get very tragic, and how the doppleganger storyline will be resolved before the end of this season. He also talked about his deal with Warner Bros. and how he’s currently developing some new television series for them...

... Q: Will the werewolf-vampire tensions drive Caroline and Tyler apart?

WILLIAMSON: Yeah, 100%. In the very next episode, things begin to unfold in a way that doesn’t bode well for their budding relationship and their friendship. Tyler starts asking questions, and we’ll see that blow open. And, don’t forget there’s Matt (Zach Roerig) waiting over there, in the middle. There’s a little triangle there as well, with a human, a vampire and a werewolf. Tyler got through his transformation and Caroline was there for him, and they have this kinship now, of this curse. Now, we take it to the next level and play it out. It’s very tragic. I wish I could just squeal and tell you everything that’s going to happen, but over the next three episodes, it gets tragic...

SFX MAGAZINE BLOG: The art and philosophy of Star Trek and Stargate

What is the philosophical value of science fiction? Blogger Kell Harker talks to artist Martin Firrell about his new Sci Fi Series project

“Chewy” is the adjective that artist Martin Firrell chooses when he’s asked to describe his Sci Fi Series project in just one word. Using his privileged position as an artist and his interest in science fiction and portraiture, Martin has been interviewing some of the best-loved characters from popular American television science fiction for this project; an investigation into the value that sci-fi has in our lives.

Featured on his official website, Martin gives us glimpses of his work in progress with Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis), Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13), Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate SG1), David Nykl (Stargate Atlantis), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek Voyager), and Nathan Fillion (Firefly).

Whoa. Excited and intrigued to learn more about the Sci Fi Series I humbly approached Martin for an interview and he generously granted one...

... For those who are not familiar with your new project, can you explain what your Sci Fi Series is about?

Martin: “The Sci Fi Series will present social comment, and philosophical truths about living well, derived from observation of popular American television science fiction. It allows me to explore my growing interest in portraiture (of the actors who have created some of the most well-known and best-loved characters in the genre) and my belief that it is popular culture, rather than high culture that will shape our beliefs in the 21st century.”

“I see this work as an evolution of Complete Hero, the work I made as Public Artist in Residence with the Household Division of the British Army in 2009. In that work I made my first experiments with video portraiture and it was also my first departure from works based purely on text. Incidentally, Nathan Fillion (Mal Reynolds, Firefly) was the first person I interviewed for Complete Hero, so the origins of the Sci Fi Series can be traced back to him. He and I have discussed this, and the fact that Nathan has, and continues to be, my muse.”

“Through all of my work, you can see my interest in art as an agent of positive change and an active force for good in people’s lives. I believe that art should be useful and it should be for everyone. So whilst the Sci Fi Series project may look a little different from my earlier works, it shares this founding belief with them...”
