BOSTON HERALD: Outspoken nature earns Shahi role on character-driven ‘Fairly Legal’

Sarah Shahi auditioned for “Fairly Legal” five weeks after giving birth to her son.

“I went into the audition wearing my husband’s T-shirt, Nike running pants, a blazer and heels because that’s the only thing that fit me,” Shahi said during a recent conference call with reporters to promote the USA Network series (tonight at 10). “They called and said that they really like me, but they thought I was wearing some interesting wardrobe.”

Despite her questionable attire, producers wanted her for the starring role of Kate Reed, an ex-lawyer turned professional mediator. But Shahi, who had previously starred in “The L Word” and “Life,” wasn’t sure she wanted the grind of another series. For two seasons, she had worked 18 hours a day on “Life,” only to see the show canceled...
