He tells Robin his tales of not having to find his sea legs as he wound up getting seasick on dry land! He also offers acting tips for working with his faithful parrot co-star. COLLIDER: Executive Producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman Talk FRINGE Season 4 Finale and Season 5

by Christina Radish
May 4th, 2012

Much to the happiness of its devoted fanbase, Fox recently picked up the sci-fi drama Fringe for a fifth and final 13-episode season, allowing the series to provide the climactic conclusion that it’s been heading towards. The two-part finale, airing on May 4th and 11th, will see the Fringe team pushed to their breaking point, as they face off against David Robert Jones (Jared Harris) and desperately attempt to prevent a catastrophic event that threatens the lives of everyone.

During this recent interview to discuss the remainder of this season, showrunners/executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman talked about how much the fan and social media support has meant to them, the impact the final episodes of this season could have on Season 5, their hope that they’ll get Leonard Nimoy back for the final season, that contrary to what has been reported there was no alternate ending that was shot in case the show didn’t get picked up, what they were doing when they found out they would get a final 13 episodes to finish telling this story, that they definitely know where and how the series is going to end and what they’re saying with the final season, and that they hope to continue the story with some comic books, once all is said and done...

... Collider: Is it possible that David Robert Jones is not the penultimate bad guy here, and that there’s someone higher on the baddie food chain, like William Bell or someone else?

WYMAN: "That’s interesting. No bad guy really thinks that they’re a bad guy. Jones is a pretty good bad guy."

PINKNER: "What’s been fun for us is that there have been two David Robert Jones’ on our show, and both are largely the same person, in almost every way, existing in two different timelines, but even he has a doppelganger. It’s so incredibly fun to see Jared Harris portray this character that, for all intents and purposes, could be a doppelganger in a much different alternate universe to David Robert Jones. Jared is just spectacular. In the world of, “Is there another bad guy who is pulling his strings or above him?,” I think we’d be wrong to say anything other than just David Robert Jones is pretty compelling and he’s pretty nefarious. He’s definitely a suitable opponent for our team. It’s taken all of them to deal with him."

WYMAN: "The ground will shift a little bit and you’ll understand him a little bit deeper..."

Fringe airs Friday at 9/8C on FOX.

TV GUIDE: Eddie Izzard Brings His Cheeky Sass to Syfy's Treasure Island

May 4, 2012
by Michael Logan

Shiver me timbers! The original pirate heist caper, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, gets a muscular, edge-of-your-seat reboot on Syfy with Eddie Izzard — yep, the cross-dressing Brit comic — as that notorious peg-legged plunderer Long John Silver. The four-hour epic, which also stars Elijah Wood, Donald Sutherland and newcomer Toby Regbo, has already won big ratings in England, where it ran as a miniseries. Syfy airs it all in one night. The plot: Young Jim Hawkins (Regbo), who is in possession of a map to buried treasure, takes a swashbuckling voyage to the West Indies, little knowing that the ship's cook (that would be Long John) and the seemingly benign crew are actually cutthroat buccaneers determined to get to the gold first. Izzard gave us the lowdown on his killer role...

... TV Guide Magazine: Stevenson never wrote a follow up to Treasure Island, yet there's talk you plan to do one anyway. Isn't that a bit cheeky?

Eddie Izzard: "One has to be careful. I can't reel off a list of sequels to literary classics that have done well, but that won't stop us! We're already working on it. It'll probably be set in the Mediterranean so we can work in the Barbary pirates. Only four of us are left alive at the end of this one, but there are new places we can go, especially with the relationship between Jim and Long John. They're buddies, they're foes, they're like mentor and student or father and son. Long John loves Jim but is also prepared to kill him. [Laughs] I think they have big adventures ahead!"

Treasure Island airs Saturday at 7/6c on Syfy.

TV GUIDE: Weekend TV Roundup: Sherlock, Rock ’n' Roll, Comedy Awards and More

May 4, 2012
by Matt Roush

... MORE SUNDAY GOODNESS: The hits just keep on coming on Sundays, including HBO's strongest lineup of originals in quite some time. In a spectacular and, as usual, sprawling installment of Game of Thrones (9/8c), there are crucial tests of leadership and manhood for Theon Greyjoy as he makes his move to occupy Winterfell and for Jon Snow in the snowy North as his Night Watch away team encounters a tribe of Wildlings. Back in Kings Landing, Tyrion memorably squares off against the horrid little King Joffrey after chaos erupts on the unruly streets, and in the desert city of Qarth, "mother of dragons" Daenerys works the local merchants to invest in her crusade to take back the Seven Kingdoms. But as usual, my heart belongs to adorable Arya Stark, who bonds with brutal Tywin Lannister over the importance of reading while staving off several close calls at exposing her secret identity. I can't believe we're already past the halfway point of this bustling season...

TV GUIDE: Weekend TV Roundup: Sherlock, Rock ’n' Roll, Comedy Awards and More

May 4, 2012
by Matt Roush

"Brainy's the new sexy."

Didn't we always know that? But how nice to have it reconfirmed — by none other than Irene Adler (Lara Pulver), the only woman ever known to render the great and arrogant Sherlock Holmes speechless. She appears as never before, as a saucy and sometimes naked dominatrix possessing scandalous government secrets, in the first of three scintillating new Sherlock brain-teasers, starting Sunday on PBS' Masterpiece Mystery! (check local listings).

As brilliantly updated into a modern-day franchise by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and Mark Gatiss, who appears on occasion as Sherlock's exasperated and well-connected brother Mycroft, the second season kicks off by resolving last year's cliffhanger that pitted the dashing Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch, a tall drink of flashing wit and ferocious bark) against his greatest nemesis, the playfully malevolent arch-fiend Moriarty (Andrew Scott, smarmy and smug). They will clash again even more memorably in this season's dizzying and dazzling finale, "The Reichenbach Fall," inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Final Problem."

But first we're treated to the delicious "A Scandal in Belgravia" (not to be confused with the "Bohemia" of the original story), which opens with Sherlock fuming over his newfound notoriety, playing backseat blogger to his long-suffering sidekick Dr. John Watson (the affably prickly Martin Freeman). "The last thing I need is a public image," frets the private detective. So how and why does Sherlock turn up buck naked in Buckingham Palace? If that's made you curious enough to tune in, my work is done.

As in the first season, it is always exhilarating to watch the peerless sleuth at work, his thought processes visualized as on a computer screen. But when he first encounters the exotic and saucy enigma that is Irene, all he sees are "?????" She has his number, and he has hers — and we're not just talking cell phones, although that is part of this gloriously twisty tale. "He will outlive God trying to have the last word," declares Watson. But in Irene Adler, he may just have met his match...
