ONCE UPON A CURE - Online Charity Auction to Benefit MPS II Research

Ryan Purcell worked as a camera operation for the Stargate franchise, beginning with Stargate Atlantis, and then Stargate Universe. Ryan's son Trey was diagnosed with a rare genetic and progressive disease called Hunter Syndrome, or MPS-II (mucopolysaccharidosis II) in 2006. The Purcells established the MPS-II Research Fund within the Canadian MPS Society (charity number: 12903 0409 RR0001) and began fundraising. Their efforts started with the annual “Tacos for Trey” fundraiser, a local event geared towards families – the goal of which was to fund one $40,000 research grant each year specifically for Hunter Syndrome research.

Sasha Roiz stars in NBC’s new drama series “Grimm” as Captain Renard, Nick’s politically adept superior officer and a descendant of a powerful line of Grimm royalty. Roiz’s “Grimm” character follows his last regular role as Sam Adama, a brutal mob enforcer, on the critically acclaimed Syfy series “Caprica,” prequel to “Battlestar Galactica...”

Grimm airs Friday at 9/8C on NBC.

As Terra Nova nears the finale for season 1, we look at what its like for a teenager in Terra Nova through the eyes on Josh Shannon played by Landon Liboiron.

Landon isn’t new to television. Landon Liboiron has worked extensively on Canadian productions, most recently as a series regular on the popular teen drama “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” His additional television credits include “Wild Roses,” “Flashpoint,” “Don’t Cry Now,” “Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness,” “The Dark Room” and “Mayerthorpe,” for which he won an AMPIA Award for Best Alberta Actor. Stateside, he most recently appeared in a recurring role on the drama “Life Unexpected..”

We had a chance to ask Landon some questions about his character and the show...



... Q: Tell us a little bit about your character Josh Shannon and the situation that lead your character to Terra Nova.

Landon Liboiron: "Josh Shannon is the life and blood of an adolescence teenager in season 1. He’s angry in his own skin because he figures the world is treating him harshly. That being said he is also a very vulnerable, confused kid and when his mother’s job at being a doctor is what allows their family to go to Terra Nova, his only comfort in a dark world is suddenly uprooted..."

Even after the October finale of the nail-biting sixth season of “Doctor Who,” there’s been plenty of suspense for Whovians — they’ve been counting down the days until the Christmas special, “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe”; keeping track of the “Doctor Who” feature film speculation; celebrating TARDIS Day; and reveling in the recovery of long-lost classic “Who” episodes. The most recent season also hit store shelves last month in a new fancy boxed set. To look back at what some fans consider the most enthralling season in the show’s 48-year history, Hero Complex writer Noelene Clark caught up with Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond, the traveling companion of Matt Smith’s Doctor. ... NC: And then there’s also Amy’s relationship with Rory, Arthur Darvill’s character.

KG: "Oh, I love that relationship so much because it’s developed so much throughout the last two seasons. If we remember back to “The Eleventh Hour,” the very first episode, Amy was so reluctant to commit to this man. Like he would say he was her boyfriend, and she’d say, “kind-of boyfriend.” And then Amy runs away on the night before her wedding because she doesn’t want to commit. And on the night before she’s, you know, supposed to grow up, she decides to run away like a child. And then Rory kind of proves himself through a series of heroic events. And they just kind of… it’s like not knowing what you have until it’s gone. And I guess with being faced with the prospect of Rory being gone, Amy’s realized how much she cares about him, and finally marries him, and now they have a child. It’s developed so much..."

Uther (Anthony Head) is gravely ill, Morgana (Katie McGrath) is officially evil, the sword has been placed in the stone, the Round Table is up and running and Arthur (Bradley James) still has no idea that Merlin (Colin Morgan) is magic...if you didn't know that, then you didn't watch Season 3 of "Merlin." (Shame on you.)

Fortunately, you've got a chance to catch up when Syfy runs its Christmas Day "Merlin" marathon (from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.) as a lead up to the series' Season 4 premiere on Jan. 6.

Meanwhile, BBC Home Video has revealed that the Season 3 box set will hit stores on Jan. 17. The 5-disc set retails for $49.98 and will include select episode audio commentaries, a "Making of" featurette, outtakes and video from the inaugural "Merlin" panel at last year's San Diego Comic Con.

Curious about what series stars Colin Morgan (Merlin) and Bradley James (Arthur) have to say about this season? Here's some of what they told their production company...



... Q: What’s Arthur and Merlin's relationship like at the start of this season?

COLIN MORGAN: "They are master and servant, but they have also always been friends. They can't help but like each other for their own quirks. What is different this season is that you see a vulnerable prince making use of Merlin as an adviser. For his part, Merlin realizes how much he needs to be strong for Arthur's sake..."

... Q: What has happened to Arthur since we last saw him?

BRADLEY JAMES: "Arthur has to take the responsibility for the kingdom on his shoulders because his father has lost his mind. All eyes in the kingdom are now upon Arthur, looking to him, not to Uther, who is hiding in the corner of the room, rocking back and forth. Morgana poses an enormous threat to the kingdom Arthur is trying to protect. He has been thrown into the deep end of a very grave situation indeed..."
