Being Human 5 - SFX Magazine: Damien Molony, Kate Bracken, Michael Socha & Phil Davis Interview

SFX MAGAZINE: Being Human Series 5: Cast Interviews
Being Human returns to BBC Three for a fifth series on Sunday 3 February at 10pm. Here are four interviews with the main stars from the official BBC press pack.
Being Human season five also premieres in the US on BBC America in 2013.
Being Human 5's Michael Socha, Kate Bracken, and Damien Molony
SFX Magazine: What’s happening at the beginning of the new series?
Damien Molony (Hal): “At the beginning of series five, Hal is pretty much where we left him. He’s tied to a chair, off the blood, but the only real difference is he’s been here for a while, so he’s got a beard, he’s sweaty and craving blood. The house is a complete mess. Alex is tearing things open looking for taste, looking for smells… any kind of sensation really that she now can’t have because she’s a ghost. Tom is just getting all kinds of takeaways and destroying the house in front of Hal’s eyes. So Hal is desperate to get out and clean it up, to bring some order and control to the house but the horrible thing is he doesn’t trust himself because he might go back on the blood...”
... SFX Magazine: What will the fans see in Alex?
Kate Bracken (Alex): “From episode one you see a vulnerability to Alex, and you see it finally hitting home that she isn’t going to be able to do all the things she used to. At one point, it really hits her that she’s actually dead! So she hasn’t fully adjusted, and we see her trying coming to terms with her death. But Alex is also someone who won’t dwell on things too much. She will pick herself up and dust herself off. It’s about how she changes from being vulnerable to thinking, ‘How can I make this situation better? How can I contribute?’ Alex can always see the good in people, even when they can’t....
SFX MAGAZINE: How is Tom adjusting to all the changes?
Michael Socha (Tom): “Tom’s definitely better adjusted to being ‘human’, especially since he has experienced life a bit more. But he’s still confused about a lot of things; things we probably take for granted. He’s still learning and gets confused about aspects of life because Tom has lived in quite a black and white world, but now he understands that there are depths to people and there isn’t just love and anger, there are loads of aspects to the world he isn’t sure of. It’s hard for Tom but he’s grown up an awful lot...”
SFX Magazine: What can you tell me about Captain Hatch?
Phil Davis (Captain Hatch): “He’s pretty disgusting, nasty, spiteful, old man, at least to start with. Captain Hatch is very sick, he’s in a wheelchair and he suffers from all kind of ailments, but as he manages to set the vampire and the werewolf against each other, he gets more powerful and it restores his health. By the end he’s able to do all the things he couldn’t do to start with...”

Being Human - Collider: Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington, Meaghan Rath & Kristen Hager Interview

COLLIDER: Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington, Meaghan Rath and Kristen Hager Talk BEING HUMAN Season 3
by Christina Radish
January 28th, 2013
Season 3 of the Syfy drama series Being Human is its edgiest and most shocking yet. With over a year having past since the end of Season 2, Aidan (Sam Witwer), Josh (Sam Huntington), Sally (Meaghan Rath) and Nora (Kristen Hager) are all in very different places now, which not only affects their friendship as roommates, but also how they interact with others. And if the beginning of the season is any indication, things are bound to get crazier.
During this recently exclusive interview with the show’s stars, the foursome talked about where there characters are headed this season, as a result of all of the big storyline shifts, getting to revisit some storylines from Season 2, how the friendship dynamic is changing, that this season will have more lightness to it, what these new changes mean for their love lives, and that they really do take the fans’ input into consideration...
Sam Huntington, Sam Witwer, Kristen Hager and Meaghan Rath from Being Human
... Collider: What can you say about where your characters are headed this season, especially with all of these big storyline shifts?
SAM WITWER: "That was Anna Fricke taking command of this show. Her and her husband (Jeremy Carver) were the showrunners for the first two years, and now he’s off running Supernatural. Anna is now the singular showrunner and the direction of the show is basically her staking her claim on the show. I’ve gotta say I was so happy to see where she was taking it because it’s a direction that I felt was the show, in the truest sense. I feel like we are doing Being Human, and we’re doing it right."
MEAGHAN RATH: "One of Anna’s many fortes is writing characters. This season is so much about the characters and us coming together and how we relate to each other, and how it’s changed from the previous two seasons. She’s really done an amazing job."
WITWER: "The result is a really consistent season, that’s our best season, easily. We are very, very happy. With huge shifts, there’s definitely a risk there. But, I think it pays off this year. Anna Fricke’s instinct is to switch things up. There are things that she’s still pushing for, for seasons down the road, that are pretty risky ideas. We’ll see what happens."
KRISTEN HAGER: "There are also new supernatural elements that have come into play. And a lot more werewolves will be looking around this season. Liam (Xander Berkeley), the father of Brynn and Connor, the purebred twins, is looking for answers, so he’s a threat to us. He does evil with his piercing blue eyes."
SAM HUNTINGTON: "And there’s this vampire plague that has basically spread throughout the vampires and killed a lot of them..."

HELL ON WHEELS - AMC TV: Q & A WITH RYAN ROBBINS
In this interview for AMCtv.com, Ryan Robbins, who plays Hawkins on AMC's Hell on Wheels, talks about bonding with Anson Mount over 1860s weapons and the technical side of his character's execution scene...
Anson Mount and Ryan Robbins from 'The Railroad Job' on Hell on Wheels
... Q: You've done a lot of scifi TV shows. What drew you to Hell on Wheels?
Ryan Robbins: "I've always loved a good Western. I started watching the show for Chris [Heyerdahl] and got hooked immediately. It's such a good show and AMC is an amazing network. I jumped at the chance to be a part of the family."
Q: You said on Twitter that Christopher Heyerdahl is one of your all-time favorite co-stars. Why is that?
Ryan Robbins: "Chris and I did Sanctuary together for a total of five years and we became really good friends. I always tell people that Chris was there when my daughter took her first steps. He's just a great guy and an incredible actor."
Q: What is the training like to use 1860s guns for a show like Hell on Wheels?
Ryan Robbins: "I love history and learning how to use those particular tools, which is effectively what they are. I felt like Anson [Mount, who plays Cullen Bohannon] was the same way. We would sit down together and take the weapons apart and put them back together. It ended up being really beneficial. In that shootout in the end between Cullen and Hawkins, we ended up working it out much differently than it was written because those old pistols, you can't just simply reload like you would now. It's a big process..."
Hell on Wheels season three premieres on AMC TV in Summer of 2013.

Matt Roush: Since you're asking on behalf of your husband, we'll give you a pass this time for not keeping up on the latest intel. It was reported last week that James Brolin has been cast as the elusive father figure, and he'll first appear in the Feb. 28 conclusion of a two-part episode...

... Question: I will forgive you for not giving a shout-out on last Tuesday's playlist to the thrilling two-part series finale for Flashpoint that Ion buried in an 11/10c timeslot with absolutely no advertising. Are there any other Canadian TV imports worth checking out? I caught the pilot for Continuum, which didn't blow me away but seemed promising. Secondly, I heard that Nikita did horribly in the Friday-at-9/8c time slot ratings-wise (not sure if the show is doing better in the 8/7c slot). Do you know if this will be the last season of Nikita, or are expectations low enough for Fridays that it could be renewed for another season? — Brian
Matt Roush: My apologies on not calling attention to the end of Flashpoint (though it would have been helpful if the PTB at Ion or the production company had ever flagged it to our attention). That really was peculiar scheduling for an acquired first-run series that you'd think Ion might have used to bolster the brand. Regarding Canadian series: If you're a Syfy fan, you might check out the kinky Lost Girl on the same night as Continuum My own two all-time Canadian favorites, which coincidentally both star Paul Gross but otherwise couldn't be more different, are Due South (the crime dramedy about the transplanted Mountie) and the brilliant theatrical comedy Slings & Arrows (of which there are the most fragile of rumors that it could someday return for a fourth season). ABC's summer entry Rookie Blue is probably the most successful current import.
Regarding Nikita: It's always going to live on the bubble season to season. But this weekend's episode was its highest-rated in more than a year, so that's a good sign. And this is a case where ratings aren't as much of an issue — on The CW, are they ever? — as it is the studio building an inventory of episodes for syndication, where action series like this can do well here and abroad. So I'm cautiously (and hopefully) optimistic we'll see a fourth season, though I wouldn't be shocked either way...

... Question: Who does the voice of Howard Wolowitz' mother on The Big Bang Theory? Is it Melissa Rauch? — Joseph
Matt Roush: I love that you think it might be Melissa — because it's always funny when Bernadette (Rauch) gets so riled up at Howard she starts barking at him like his mother. But the actress who has been shouting those lines at Howard off-camera since the series began is Carol Ann Susi, a classic example of a character so much funnier being heard but not seen...

Being Human - TV Guide: Sam Witwer Interview

TV GUIDE: Sam Witwer Loves Being Human
Jan 28, 2013
by Damian Holbrook
For a guy playing a broody Boston bloodsucker, Sam Witwer couldn't be happier. Now in his third season on Syfy's Being Human, the Smallville vet's ancient vampire Aidan Waite is up to his incisors in a devastating plague that is wiping out his undead brethren and giving his character all sorts of juicy stuff to sink his teeth into. In Monday's episode things get even wilder (and maybe more lethal) for Aidan and his roomies — former werewolf Josh and recovering ghost Sally — so we decided to pump Witwer for some scoop on what's coming up on the bloody cool supernatural drama...
... TV Guide Magazine: Were these changes the result of any off-camera tweaks?
Sam Witwer: "Anna Fricke is now our sole showrunner. The first two seasons, it was her and her husband Jeremy Carver, so she is really staking her claim and is doing a version of the show that, frankly, I have been waiting to do since I read the pilot. Jeremy helped write the first five or six scripts, then went over to Supernatural [where he is showrunner].:
TV Guide Magazine: Even though there is this flu killing vampires, it still seems lighter than Aidan's brutal storyline last year.
Sam Witwer: "It was really dark. My character was dealing exclusively with the vampires and was kind of removed from the roommate situation. This season, if Aidan isn't dealing with the roommates, he's with some other very interesting human beings. And I emphasize that they are humans, because that is when my character is at his best. He's scarier because we know who he is and how he can hurt people, he's sadder because he wants to be like them, and he's more interesting because he's living this double life. You get to see all of that this season. He's introduced into the general population but how can he just turn off the killer part in him? He's a blood addict and a trained killer!"
Being Human season three airs Monday at 9/8C on Syfy. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE EPISODE TRAILER FOR 'HE TEENS THEY ARE A CHANGIN' AIRING JANUARY 28, 2013.
