DOCTOR WHO - WHAT'S ON TV (UK): Doctor Who's Arthur: Rory's a proper companion now
May 25, 2011
Arthur Darvill took time out to talk to What's On TV about playing Rory in Doctor Who and to fill us in on his latest adventure set in an acid mine. The second part of this Doctor Who story begins this Saturday [in the UK, in the US, on BBC America June 6 9/8c] with Rory in terrible danger as he looks for 'ganger' Jennifer in the monastery...
... What's On TV: Rory seems to have a bigger role in this series?
Arthur Davill: “Absolutely, he’s really part of the gang now. I think getting married and proving himself to everyone. Waiting 2000 years for Amy has helped his confidence. It hasn’t made him ‘Mr Total Confidence’ because I don’t think he’ll ever be that, but he definitely feels like he deserves to be there, and has a role to play and can help out with whatever adventure they have. There are still various tensions there, but he’s not still trying to work out what’s going on between the Doctor and Amy and the whole time travel thing. He’s got it now!”

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Glamour! Intrigue! Suspense! What Lurks Behind? A collaboration with the innovative Electric Company Theatre, this stylish thriller is inspired by the "reel" history of the Stanley Theatre. Experience a multimedia spectacle featuring your favourite Hollywood film noir archetypes: the mob boss, the femme fatale, the hardboiled detective, and his girl Friday.
“We commissioned the Electric Company as part of our Silver Commissions Project,” says Bill Millerd, Arts Club Artistic Managing Director, “and the piece they have created takes their continued exploration of combining film with live stage action to a new level of creative energy.”
“The language of film noir is beautifully manipulated in the protagonist’s quest to break through social and theatrical convention to find something truly authentic,” Rachel Ditor, Arts Club Literary Manager adds. “The Electric Company looks back to theatre greats like Antonin Artaud in order to suggest a new future.”
Tear the Curtain! is a pure hybrid of theatre and feature film. In 1930s Vancouver, where rival crime bosses fight for territory, a jaded critic uncovers the forgotten legacy of a theatrical legend. A suspenseful reimagining of the events that lead to the birth of the historic Stanley Theatre, Tear the Curtain! lays claim to the entire venue —scenes unfold at the ticket window, in the lobby, the dressing rooms, and under the stage. Created by a team of Vancouver’s most talented film and theatre artists, this innovative project promises a standoff at gunpoint between two halves of the Stanley’s past. Does the truth lie somewhere between the stage and screen?
This production ran from September 9 – October 10, 2010.

... Firefly
10-11 PM SCIENCE
For anyone just discovering Joss Whedon's short-lived 2002 sci-fi Western starring Nathan Fillion during its Science run: Welcome to heartbreak. "Objects in Space" sends the cult classic out in a brilliant blaze as Serenity's crew becomes increasingly spooked by River's (Summer Glau) psychic powers and a bounty hunter skilled in physical and psychological violence infiltrates the ship to claim the loony lass. An existentially spacey thriller with philosophical heft, Firefly, with its abrupt goodbye, will dazzle you — then depress you with a profound want that will never be satisfied. Whoo-hoo!
