It’s been the better part of two years now since the last time GateWorld had a full sit-down with Stargate Universe actor Brian J. Smith — in fact, Season Two hadn’t even begun to air yet. Since then, the series (and for the time being, the franchise) was placed in mothballs and the cast has moved on to other projects. And with multiple projects that have aired both during SGU‘s final season run and significantly after, Smith has been one of the busiest.

GateWorld recently had the chance to catch up extensively with the actor, when Smith was gracious enough to burn up the phone lines with us on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. In this super-sized chat, Brian J. Smith talks to GateWorld about and deconstructs the biggest character moments in Season Two for Matthew Scott, explains the joys of shooting on location and his love for the Dallas Cowboys, talks about why he almost didn’t take his latest network television role, and much more!

Last week, Being Human executive producers/show runners Anna Fricke and Jeremy Carver spent part of an afternoon on the phone with me and some other journalists to talk about the show’s upcoming second season. The following is an edited version of our Q & A (beware of some minor spoilers). Enjoy!



... Q: Has there been a story line that you have wanted to tackle, but for whatever reason have not been able to yet?

JC: "Yes, it’s actually an existing Aidan story line, but I don't even want to tease it just because it's coming."

AF: "I don't think you have to give away the story, but we really keep on wanting to get back into what exactly happened with Aidan's family, with his wife and child..."

JC: "His original wife and child back in Revolutionary times."

AF: "So we won't say what we're thinking about for that, but that is a story that we actually wanted to get into, but haven't time for this year."

JC: "It's a story that we all know and love, and can't wait to spring it should we be lucky enough to have a future season..."

One can see Chris Heyerdahl it seems everywhere these days, even if he's not always recognizable. Heyerdahl has played a variety of characters both in movies and in television, but he almost never looks the same. Some of his more popular roles include his role of Todd the Wraith on Syfy's Stargate: Atlantis (where he also played the more recognizable Halling), Marcus in the hugely popular Twilight film series, his dual roles on Sanctuary as both Biggie (Bigfoot) and John Druitt. More recently Heyerdahl has also joined the cast of AMC's Hell on Wheels as the Swede.

Heyerdahl recently sat down with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision to talk about a variety of his roles...




... Heyerdahl's dual roles in Sanctuary are some of fans favorites. The actor enjoys playing both of the very different roles. "They're both great characters. It really depends on how late my night was before whether I prefer Biggie or not. He gets up awfully early in the morning, old Biggie (laughs). Sometimes that's enjoyable and sometimes it's less [than] that."

Many fans were wondering whether Druitt would be back again on Sanctuary. "Well, it's hard to say at this stage of the game but the odds are that he's pretty dead. That being said, it is sci-fi. No one ever dies in sci-fi.

"So it really is completely up to the writers. At this point, as far as Druitt in the future, he is dead as far as I know, but just like Watson (played by Peter Wingfield), we can show stories from different plot time periods, explore different decades in Magnus' life and meet him there..."
