SFX MAGAZINE: Michelle Fairley Interview Game Of Thrones Season Two

by Jordan Farley
March 26 2012

... SFX Magazine: Do you ever have difficulty wrapping your head around the complex storylines, or the wealth of characters in the scripts?

Michelle Fairley: "It is extremely difficult, but that’s what I think is the wonderful thing about it actually. There are these touchstone characters, who are extremely important, and in the second series you have a lot of new characters as well who are vitally important to the thrust of the story. They push the story forward in another direction, but you still have the main characters from the first season. Everybody has a knock on effect on everyone else. It’s one of those series where you do have to watch it. It is extremely complicated, it is extremely layered. It’s exciting because so many of the characters are devious and making out they’re going for one thing when actually underneath they’re scheming for something else.

As an actor you have to play the subtext as well. The thing that Dan and all the other writers, and George has done in the novels, is create real people, but in a different time. The things they’re struggling with are things that people struggle with today, family, moving away, improving your life, proving your worth, doing something to improve the way you think about yourself – the whole self-image thing as well. When you have that dichotomy in a character it’s wonderful to play...

SFX MAGAZINE: Game Of Thrones Season Two: Liam Cunningham Interview

Rob Power
March 27 2012

... Q: You’re in a unique position, having watched the show and now you’re appearing in it – why do you think it resonates with viewers?

Liam Cunningham: "I what it’s got going for it is that the stuff these people get up to in this show is something that you and I would never get up to, thank God, but you can see their reasons, their motivations for doing it. The other thing I like about it is that it challenges an audience. You are watching with great sympathy somebody like Cersei, and you can see it’s about family with her, she wants to protect the family, and the delightful woman that Lena is, so softly spoken in the show. And then two episodes in, she does something absolutely horrific and you kind of go “how could I have been sympathetic to this character? And then within two more episodes you kind of go ‘yeah, actually I get it’. You have empathy, perhaps not sympathy, but you understand the motivations of these people getting up to extraordinarily bad things, and manipulative things, and in a sense it’s power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It’s a world that you wouldn’t want to be involved in, and I think it kind of reflects a lot of governmental things, and people at the upper echelons of power, what they might be up to, and the fact that the so-called national interest is put above morality and put above right and wrong and all that sort of thing. I mean it’s politics and the human drama, set against this beautiful bizarre backdrop of magic and fantasy, there’s nothing been like it before you know?"

COLLIDER: Mykelti Williamson Talks JUSTIFIED Season 3

by Christina Radish
March 26th, 2012

Developed by Graham Yost and based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard, the hit FX drama series Justified has proven itself to be one of the strongest written and best acted shows on television. One of the new additions for Season 3 has been actor Mykelti Williamson, as the mysterious Limehouse, a man who knows enough secrets to make almost everyone in Harlan uncomfortable.

During this recent interview about his role on the show, Mykelti Williamson talked about not knowing whether or not he’ll be returning next season, the fun of being kept in the dark about where things are going, what he thinks of his character, how much he enjoys watching the show as a viewer, his favorite scene in the finale, and that he keeps a character Bible of his own potential storylines that he hopes to suggest, should he return...

... Collider: Do you know yet, if Limehouse will get to continue for another season?

Mykelti Williamson: "I have no idea. I still don’t know. The way we closed out this last season, which we just finished a couple weeks ago, I don’t know. They leave it up in the air, which is fun. It’s interesting. But, I couldn’t tell you. The way it was done, nobody knows anything. I’ll be surprised to see it. It’s a la Hitchcock, when Hitchcock would give certain actors certain scenes, and then other actors other scenes, and they never really knew what was going on. It’s like that. It’s in that vein, but it’s cool..."

Justified airs Tuesday at 10/9C on FX.

TV GUIDE: On the Set: Game of Thrones Roars Back for a Bloody Season 2

Mar 27, 2012
by Kate Hahn

... Though that popularity has made the actors [Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kit Harington] virtual rock stars to fanboys — and, in particular, to fangirls — the tight-knit cast is almost never in one place at the same time. Harington, who plays Ned Stark's illegitimate son, Jon Snow, will soon head to Iceland to film his scenes at the icy Wall. But before he goes, we joined the imp, the knight and the "bastard" for a rare get-together to talk about love, politics and who should win the war. (And lest you think they've become so famous they've forgotten where they came from, Harington had to whisper into his cell, "I'll call you back, Mum," before we got started...)

... TV Guide Magazine: What is at your characters' cores? What makes them tick?

Nikolaj: "Jaime shows no fear. He knows that he's hated by many people, but he's not going to give them the satisfaction of not being that way. He's not going to apologize."

Peter: "Tyrion's similar to Jaime: unapologetic. I am what I am. I'm going to make the joke before you get a chance to. I'm going to beat you at your own game."

Kit: "Jon's very strong on standing up for people who he thinks are being mistreated. He's like his dad. He's noble..."
