GRIMM - NBC VIDEO FEATURETTE: Snow White Re-Imagined Promo - NEW Series Premieres Friday, October 28, 2011 at 9/8C

Grimm is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, "Turn The Beat Around") discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms," charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.

As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton, (Bitsie Tulloch, "quarterlife"), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby, "Lincoln Heights"), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world.

With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, "Prison Break"), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology, facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, The Grimm Brothers. Reggie Lee ("Persons Unknown") and Sasha Roiz ("Caprica") also star.

GRIMM - LOS ANGELES TIMES SHOW TRACKER: Silas Wier Mitchell is the not so big, bad wolf on NBC's 'Grimm'

October 27, 2011
by Yvonne Villarreal

The big bad wolf is about to get an image makeover.

In the new NBC fantasy crime drama "Grimm," which premieres Friday, fairy tales get a twist. Nick Burckhardt (David Giuntoli) is a Portland, Ore., police detective who learns he is a descendant of a long line of hunters that battle fairy tale monsters to protect the human race. And he finds an unlikely ally: a wolf (only in "Grimm" they're known as blutbads). Silas Wier Mitchell plays Monroe, a reformed blutbad who helps Nick with his cases.

Showtracker spoke to the actor about the role, the pressure Taylor Lautner has placed on hirsute wannabes, and what viewers can expect this season...

... Q: I'm used to seeing you play mentally unstable people in "Prison Break" and "My Name Is Earl." Is being a reformed wolf sort of the same thing?

Silas Wier Mitchell: "Ha! I have sort of mastered being insane. But this is qualitatively different. I am a human who is a descendant of blutbad. The idea is really that the detective (David) is a descendant of the Grimms. He acquires this skill in the pilot because the last of his antecedents is dying, so the skill passes to him. It enables him to see beyond the human mask of these people who are criminals and who have given themselves over to the darker side of human nature. The idea behind all of this is the idea that Grimm fairy tales weren't actually fairy tales; they were actually cautionary tales that the Brothers Grimm cleaned up to make more palatable. If you look at the stories closely, they're dealing with abduction, home invasion, murder. The idea is that I am human. It's like Charles Manson; if Nick saw Charles Manson, he would see him not as a crazy-looking human, but he'd see him as the creature that he is. It's a psycho-mythological type of drama..."

HAVEN - CLIQUE CLACK: Emily Rose Audio Interview

by An Nicholson

I was lucky enough to interview Emily Rose, Haven’s Audrey Parker, while she was in New York for New York Comic Con two weeks ago. For those who don’t know, Haven surrounds the mysterious “troubles” of fictional small town Haven, Maine. During season one, FBI agent Audrey Parker tracks a criminal to Haven, only to stay upon discovering her hidden links to its mysterious history. Throughout season two, the audience (and Audrey) discover the “troubles” are far greater than previously expected.

For fifteen minutes, after her NYCC panels, autograph sessions, and press room discussion, we chatted about Haven’s second season, its Christmas episode and what might happen next year...

CASTLE - ABC VIDEO: 'Cops & Robbers' Sneak Peek Airs Monday, October 31, 2011 at 10/9C

When Castle and Martha are taken hostage by a crew of bank robbers dressed in hospital scrubs and using classic television doctor names (Trapper John M.D., Dr. Huxtable, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and Dr. Doogie Howser), Beckett finds herself on the outside, desperately trying to rescue them -- which proves to be even more difficult with a by-the-book hostage negotiator (guest star Dean Norris, "Breaking Bad") watching her every move.

Castle becomes the de facto leader of the hostages, which includes Barry Livingston ("My Three Sons"), and discovers that the robbery is actually a skillfully orchestrated distraction for an even more sinister plan. But with Castle stuck on the inside and Beckett on the outside, will either be able to foil the bank robbers' plans before it is too late?

"Castle" airs MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Guest stars include Dean Norris, Barry Livingston, Darren Pettie as Trapper John, Jonah Wharton as Dr. Howser, Noa Dori as Dr. Quinn, and Ty Upshaw as Dr. Huxtable.

NATURE - PBS VIDEO: 'The Animal House' Episode Trailer Airs Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 8/7C

Skyscrapers towering over major cities or spectacularly-designed bridges often come to mind when we think of great feats in architecture and engineering. However, some of the most amazing, creative, and innovative structures on earth are not man-made or urban at all, but residences built by animals in the natural world.

Termites across Africa’s plains build ten-foot-high mounds, temperature-controlled high-rises maintained by solar power and complete with flood contingency plans. Leaf and grass cutter ants move 40 tons of earth to create subterranean cities with highways, homes, farms, trash pits, and nurseries for 12 million residents. Army ants create living houses made entirely of their own bodies. Cave swiflets mold crystal nests from their gluey saliva. New Guinea’s male Vogelkop bowerbirds, meticulous interior decorators, use their artistic visions to woo. Beavers build enormous dams, changing the landscape to create a safe environment for their lodges. And hummingbirds delicately weave tiny camouflaged cradles out of cobwebs, grass, twigs, and leaves. Guided by instinct, animal architects build an remarkable variety of elaborate dwellings with their simple supplies. Every house suits the needs of its owner, to shelter and protect.

NATURE investigates what goes into making a home when you’re wild and cost is not a factor. They may be single-use, multi-generational, or multi-purpose; they may be anything from a small depression in the sand to a many-chambered tunnel, a nest, a burrow, or a mound, but for animals big and small, these dwellings are always impressive home sweet homes.
