Trail boss Gil Favor (Eric Fleming) is in charge of a continuous cattle drive along with his right hand, Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood). The crew runs into various characters and adventures along the way.

Mushy (James Murdock) falls under the spell of a wild-eyed prospector and goes off with him in search of Quivira---a fabled lost city of gold.

Told that he's going blind, former trail boss Harry Maxton (Harold J. Stone) joins Favor's (Eric Fleming) drive to take one last look at his world.

A hot time on the old town nets the drovers assorted bruises---and a spirited girl bent on making the cowhands pay for wrecking her saloon.

With their cattle dying of thirst, the drovers face an added threat from an aging tyrant who denies them access to his abundant water supply.
