FALLING SKIES - BOSTON HERALD: Moon rocks!
Actress Bloodgood brings love of sci-fi to Spielberg’s ‘Skies’
By Amy Amatangelo
sunday, July 3, 2011
The day Moon Bloodgood became engaged, she and her fiance celebrated by watching “The Exorcist.”
Whenever the movie “Alien” is on TV, she has to stop what she’s doing and watch it.
Ever since she was a child, Bloodgood has been a fan of science fiction and horror.
That’s why she starred in “Terminator Salvation,” “Journeyman” and “Day Break.” It also explains why she wasn’t interested when she first heard about “Falling Skies.”
“I’m always going to love science fiction. That’s just a part of my personality. But I had done so much of it, and I was itching to do something else,” she told the Herald in a recent telephone interview from her Los Angeles home...
... Once she heard Steven Spielberg was behind “Falling Skies” (tonight at 9 on TNT), she decided to sign on as pediatrician Dr. Anne Glass. And when she got her first look at the series’ aliens, she was thrilled.
“I shrieked,” she said. “I know science fiction. I know horror films. I know what’s good. When I saw it, I was like, ‘Yes.’ I knew it was going to be good. Thank God, it’s not cheesy. It’s really scary and I think they do a really good job...”

TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY - NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Alexa Havins joined 'Doctor Who' spinoff 'Torchwood' at urging of fanboy husband, Justin Bruening
BY David Hinckley
Sunday, July 3rd 2011
After Alexa Havins and her husband, Justin Bruening, had their first child last August — Lexington, a girl — Havins figured she'd take a break from a fairly busy acting career "and just have some mommy time."
But the acting biz shows very little respect for plans, even simple ones.
One phone call, says Havins, "can change everything..."
... A spinoff from the BBC classic "Doctor Who," "Torchwood" is entering its fourth season on the BBC. But this year, in an unusual arrangement, the U.S. network Starz has become a partner and will start running it here next Friday (10 p.m.) as a new, 10-part stand-alone series.
You might call it a transatlantic simulcast. Whatever you call it, much of the action in the show shifts from Britain to the U.S., so naturally it needs some American characters.
This includes Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer), a manic, highly skilled loose cannon of a CIA agent, and Esther Drummond, his buttoned-down assistant, who is much more comfortable with computers than with guns and grilling mysterious perps.
Esther is where Havins comes in...
"I had never really been into 'Torchwood' myself," says Havins. "But my husband was. So I'd walk into the room and he'd be watching and I'd sit down and kind of got into it. So I was probably a little more familiar with it than other people when we started..."

Steven Weber guest-stars as Dr. Harris, a smarty-pants guy who has distinct opinions on how to gather intelligence from the aliens. Seeing as he's just a guest star, I'm guessing those ideas don't go over so well with the aliens.
