GATEWORLD: Conversations with a Gentleman Farmer

by Chad Colvin
Thursday - September 15, 2011

Life after Stargate Atlantis and the character of John Sheppard continues to be good for Joe Flanigan. The actor — most recently seen in April on Syfy in the film Ferocious Planet — is in a good place, with the ability to pick and choose the projects he wants to do based on their merits while also spending more time with his family.

GateWorld had the chance to sit down with the actor for a period and chat with him about all things Joe during his time on the Creation Entertainment Official Stargate Convention tour. And as always, he doesn’t hold back. In our time with him, Flanigan discusses some of his latest television and movie projects and fills us in on the serious injury he suffered earlier this year...

... GW: Ferocious Planet aired on Syfy this spring. Did you enjoy the shoot?

JF: I had such a good time on that shoot. We shot it in Ireland and, you know, what’s a Flanigan to do in Ireland? Enjoy himself. I had an incredible time. We had a really great cast and crew. There are rules in Ireland, you can only shoot 10 hours a day — which can lead to all sorts of problems, but also leaves you this incredibly civilized shooting schedule. Which gives you more time for the pubs.

For better or worse, Atlantis was pretty popular over there, so just getting from the point of getting out of my taxi to the hotel, there’s like a two or three block area that you can’t drive cars through and just walking those two or three blocks with the pubs, I would get stopped all the time. “Oh, for Christ sakes, it’s Colonel John Sheppard! Come here, give him a beer!” Everybody’s buying me beers! It was like the gauntlet, I couldn’t get to the hotel. And I’m not somebody to turn down a free beer...

Warehouse 13 season 3

WAREHOUSE 13 - JEWISH TRIBUNE: Warehouse 13 – a vehicle made for Saul Rubinek

Written by Joanne Hill
Tuesday, 13 September 2011

TORONTO – The hit TV series Warehouse 13 is back on the air in Canada and its star, Saul Rubinek, couldn’t be happier. “I’m a Canadian,” Rubinek told the Jewish Tribune, “and I’m proud of the fact that we’re filming in Canada. I feel blessed and I’m very lucky at my age that the role found me.

In addition to being filmed in Canada, the top-rated Warehouse 13 features four Canadian actors in leading roles. As is often the case with TV shows and films made in Canada, the series is set in the United States, and Canadian sites are dressed to resemble American locales. Many of the show’s scenes are shot on location around Toronto; for example, keen-eyed viewers of Season 2’s winter holiday episode will recognize the food court at the Promenade Shopping Centre...

... From its first season, Warehouse 13 has consistently earned the highest ratings of any scripted show in the SyFy network’s 18-year history. It is watched in about 30 million homes in 20-30 countries around the world, Rubinek said. He credited the show’s broad demographic appeal to its wit and its focus on the relationships between the characters. Although it’s made by SyFy, the show does not feature space aliens or intergalactic travel.

We are more a show as if it were written by Jules Verne by way of Raiders of the Lost Ark by way of Robert Louis Stevenson. It’s funny, smart and attractive to families.

Rubinek said he and his fellow actors, for whom he had high praise, look forward to doing a read-through of the script prior to rehearsals.

It’s like a page-turner, it’s like a thriller: we don’t know what’s going to happen next. We walk a tightrope: any scene can go in any direction at any time...

SANCTUARY - SCIENCE FICTION.COM: Interview With Agam Darshi (Kate Freelander) Of 'Sanctuary'

by Bryan Hardbarger
September 14, 2011

... Agam Darshi is a fan favorite of many, her Science Fiction roots go deep. From her very first role on ‘Renegade Press’ to ‘Supernatural’ to ‘Stargate Atlantis’ to ‘Tru-Calling’ to Roland Emmerich’s blockbuster film ‘2012’, Agam is no stranger to Sci-Fi. She was kind enough to answer some questions for me, so without further ado here is my interview with her:

Photobucket

... Bryan: Hypothetically speaking, now don’t panic – I’ve not heard anything about this, how would you feel about a Kate Freelander spin-off?

Agam Darshi: "Haha – I’d LOVE it. I really think there are so many avenues to explore. She has such a unique past, and family life that keeps haunting her. Even though she is changing and growing as a person, she still regrets some of her past actions. I think that makes for a great character because she’s flawed and human, but she lives in this abnormal works..."

Sanctuary season four premieres Friday, October 7, 2011 at 10/9C in the US on Syfy and in Canada on Space Channel.
