STAR PULSE: Interview: Joelle Carter Isn't 'Justified's' Damsel In Distress

February 9th, 2011
by Brittany Frederick

To end our "Countdown to Justified" on a high note, I went to one of the stars. Actress Joelle Carter, who plays Ava Crowder on the FX drama, sat down with me to dish about the second season, the experience of being on the series, and her work on one of my favorite films of all time...

... Speaking of Raylan, it seemed in season one like you were going to get the guy, and then that didn't happen. Was that disappointing to play? Is their relationship over for good?

I love the conflict of relationships on Justified. It was fun to play with Tim, so it was a little disappointing but also exciting to know she was going in a new direction. You never know, they still have chemistry.

Ava also has an interesting relationship with Boyd. At first, she didn't want much to do with him but in season two she's almost protective of him. How's that going to work out?

I think it has to do with going back to your roots. She also doesn't have a lot of people in her life, and she knows he has a good heart. And she needs help making ends meet. I feel like they learn new values about each other...

One of our hard-and-fast TV rules: When Jessica Walter appears on a show, we are absolutely required to watch it. The woman who perfected the overbearing-mother role on "Arrested Development" and "Archer" guest stars here as a wealthy widow who Leonard may have to sleep with to secure funding for the university's science department. Just close your eyes, Leonard, and think about Penny dressed as Wonder Woman.
