A Daily Guide To Notable Shows

... Falling Skies

9-11 PM TNT, SERIES DEBUT

In a Mad Men-free summer ruled by reality shows, what's a fan of scripted TV to do? Consider checking out Falling Skies, exec-produced by some guy named Steven Spielberg. A decisive break from TNT's Closer-mandated formula of eccentric procedurals, Skies follows a group of humans who survived a devastating alien invasion. As a history professor-turned-militiaman, Noah Wyle makes a pleasantly low-key protagonist. And unlike such recent sci-fi flops as FlashForward and The Event, which drowned in conspiracies and go-nowhere plot twists, the Skies premiere feels mercifully straightforward: The only mission is survival. (You also see the aliens in their gross-out glory right away — take that, V!) The real fun starts in tonight's second hour (scripted by Justified showrunner Graham Yost), which introduces potential breakout Colin Cunningham as a gleefully sinister postapocalyptic gang leader. — Darren Franich

HAVEN - SEA AND BE SCENE: HAVEN Star Lucas Bryant – “Past, Present, Future & Fate”

June 13, 2011

To say that Nathan Wuornos is a 'troubled' character - might be a bit of an understatement. HAVEN’s hunky lawman spent season one fighting off every kind of trouble, all the while dealing with the inner torment of feeling nothing and knowing there are a million mysteries to be solved in his seemingly possessed jurisdiction, not the least of which is the heritage of his lovely partner FBI Agent Audrey Parker.

Yes, we’re simplifying, but suffice it to say the first season of HAVEN had us on the edge of our seat from the get go and, in the end, left us dangling in mystery… AND definitely wanting for more!

Good thing then that the series was renewed – and great for us that series star Lucas Bryant took a break from the action packed schedule of shooting to chat about his character Nathan, discuss what’s up with Emily Rose’s character Audrey and so much more.

What follows is our Q & A, as they say, conducted via telephone with the truly charming and infinitely warmer than the character he plays – Lucas Bryant...

... SABS: At Sea and be Scene we celebrate the 4 Atlantic Provinces and we’re so thrilled to have you back for a second season – how do you find working here in Nova Scotia?

Lucas Bryant: "Totally brilliant – I love it. It’s right up my alley. I’m from a small town in Ontario – so I can get down with the slow pace of Chester. The people are hugely friendly. Especially this year – they’ve made it really clear that they welcome us and love having us here. So that’s been amazing to feel embraced by the community..."

Season two of Haven premieres on Syfy Friday, July 15, 2011 at 10/9C.

FALLING SKIES - NEW YORK MAGAZINE: Noah Wyle on Going From ER to the New Spielberg-Produced Falling Skies

6/17/11
By: Amy Levin-Epstein

For fifteen years, before McSteamy, McDreamy, and House, Noah Wyle played a geeky med student turned hunky doc on the original sexy medical drama, ER. In that time, the show earned 23 Emmys and Wyle earned a spot on People’s “Most Beautiful” list. Now he’s back, fighting aliens in TNT's Steven Spielberg–produced Falling Skies, which premieres this Sunday. After Boston is invaded by an extraterrestrial army, civilians must save their families and take back Earth. Their leader? Tom Mason, a father and history professor played by Wyle. Vulture caught up with the real-life father of two to talk about returning to the small screen, being the old dude on set, and proving to his son that he's badass...

Falling Skies' Drey Roy (Hal Mason) and Noah Wyle (Tom Mason)

... NYM: The pilot has a very human feel to it, even though the concept of aliens is extraordinary ...

Noah Wyle: "That’s what I got attracted by. I knew Mr. Spielberg was going to design great aliens and spaceships, and my job was going to be to focus on the characters and make it as plausible as we could possibly make and walk these people through the appropriate emotional states. When I watch it, I find the human aspect of storytelling very compelling. It walks a very fine line between being a science-fiction show and a character-based drama, and I think it will satisfy both audiences equally..."

The aliens from "V" may have pretended to come in peace while planning to conquer the Earth, but the extraterrestrial invaders in this new series aren't pulling any punches. They came, they saw, they kicked our collective you-know-what. And some survivors are joining forces and fighting back. The show focuses on two of them: a soldier and a history professor (Will Patton, Noah Wyle) leading a resistance movement. Moon Bloodgood also stars.
