MONTREAL GAZETTE: TV MONDAY DECEMBER 19, 2011: Terra Nova wraps season

the Shannons on Terra Nova have had a tough fall. It's not every family that's asked to go from being The Jetsons to The Flintstones in the blink of an eye.

Tonight is the two-hour season finale of the family's odyssey 85 million years into the past. The sci-fi drama recently revealed that diabolical interests from the future Earth are looking to mine the resources of the past. So, this week, the stage is set for a battle between the past and the future - with the fate of the Terra Nova colony hanging in the balance.

A new group of humans from 2149 are scheduled to come through the portal to the past, and Col. Taylor (Stephen Lang) and company have learned it could consist of more saboteurs or spies, or even an invasion force from the future.

The Shannon family's on-screen bond is shared by the actors themselves, who were brought to the exotic Gold Coast in Australia, for filming. The rainforest landscape helped them pretend they were in the ancient, untamed past.

"We all walked in as if (we were) the Shannon family walking in on this beautiful world they'd never seen before," Alberta-born actor Landon Liboiron, who plays son Josh Shannon, told Postmedia News in an on-set interview in October. "It was pretty brilliant."

The show itself is still looking for a vote of confidence from FOX in the form of a second season, but cast member Jason O'Mara recently tweeted that "everyone involved remains confident and optimistic...."
