The one-time Playboy Bunny who has been on stage and screen and currently stars in 'Castle' has had several career highs.

Sometimes Susan Sullivan, who plays the flamboyantly effervescent actress-mother of a mystery writer on ABC's hit "Castle," has needed a little career push.

And even a little padding.

While attending Hofstra University on Long Island 50 years ago on a drama scholarship, Sullivan was working in New York City doing showroom modeling to earn extra money.

"There was this big ad in the New York Times for Playboy Bunnys," she recalled. "Not that I wanted the job or I could even do the job because I was in school, but I wanted to see the Playboy Club because in the 1950s Playboy magazine was erotic, exciting and dangerous."

So she put some padding in her bra, wore a slinky dress from the showroom and went for an audition. "You had to try on the outfit," said Sullivan, with a laugh. She told the woman running the audition that she wasn't voluptuous enough for the Bunny outfit.

"She said 'get over yourself, everybody is padded to the hilt,'" she recalled...

No one had to push Sullivan when it came to auditioning for the role of Martha Rodgers in "Castle," which stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, a mystery writer who helps solve cases with NYPD detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Castle shares his tony New York apartment with Martha and his teenage daughter Alexis (Molly C. Quinn).

"I think Susan is a remarkable actress and a fun actress," said Andrew W. Marlowe, the creator and executive producer of "Castle."

"I think her character was originally a lot broader," noted Marlowe. "But working with Susan and understanding what she could bring to the role — she could be broad and she could be grounded and be a terrific foil for Nathan's character — allowed us to actually evolve the character."

Sullivan imbued a lot of her late mother into the part ,especially Martha's joie de vivre.

"I even worked in one of her lines into the show," Sullivan said. "She would love to say-'Susan, you is who you is and if you ain't who you is, who is you?"'

It's official. MacGyver, TV's greatest secret agent/innovator - can't romantically split The Simpsons' twins Patty and Selma Bouvier.

Marge Simpson's frumpy, middle-aged, spinster sisters are MacGyver's all-time greatest fans. They watch his show religiously. They have a lock of RDA's hair. And, despite the eventual revelation that Patty is gay, they jointly hold him up as their dream crush.

"I used to be a smoker so neither of them is really making the cut for me," Anderson told news.com.au ahead of his visit to Australia for Oz Comic Con...



... That's not great news for them, but on the subject of his hair, Anderson has some good news for Australian fans of the famous MacGyver mullet.

"I've gotten requests in real life for a lock of hair when I was young and in shape, but I've never agreed to it - that's just creepy to me," he said.

"I have had gloves taken. But I've never intentionally given someone my hair..."

Kiera (Rachel Nichols) and Carlos (Victor Webster) investigate two murders where the shooters immediately committed suicide after eliminating their victims. Both were software testers for a local computer gaming company that's been developing an immersive holographic program and Kiera decides to try it out. The effects on her are devastating. Not only have her internal electronics gone haywire, she is now under the control of Edouard Kagame (Tony Amendola) and Liber8. Alec (Erik Knudsen) works frantically to reboot her processors but also finds a previously unknown file addressed to him.

... Digital Spy: Are there any plans for Grissom (William Petersen) to make another appearance following his cameo in season eleven?


Jorja Fox: "I think that there is some stuff [planned] - I'm always hoping for it. I feel like Sara's a little young to sleep alone every night and she's still very much in love with Grissom, so we're always thinking about and hoping for some type of reunion between the two of them - at least I am. That will be a story for Sara in season 13 - what it's like to have a long-distance relationship and how she's weathering all that."

Digital Spy: Last year, CSI was named the most watched show in the world for the fifth time. How does it feel knowing that the show remains a global phenomenon 13 seasons in?


Jorja Fox: "It's astounding - it's one of the highest fan compliments the show could ever receive. We were floating on air about it for several weeks and it's always a surprise. It means so much that it's international, that it's global - we're tucked away in California doing the show, and I think we all want to be out in the world more than we are. To find out that there's folks out all over who are watching is an amazing feeling..."


CSI airs Wednesday at 10/9C on CBS.

Colm Meaney is an actor who has enjoyed a long and very successful career that has seen him juggle TV, film and theatre roles.

He is currently working on hit TV series Hells on Wheels - filming on a third season is about to get under way - and we caught up with him to chat about the show and the film work he has coming up this year...



... Female First: You are back as Thomas 'Doc' Durant so what was it about this character and the script that initially drew you to the project?

Colm Meaney: "It was the writing as I loved the story and the whole genre - I am a fan of historical drama and the American West is particularly interesting and exciting.

But the character of Durant... the writing was so articulate and so it was really literate.

The vocabulary that is used is partly due to the period but also partly due to the genius of the writing and so the dialogue is wonderful.

I remember one speech that included the line 'there will be perfidy of epic proportions' and you don't get dialogue like that very often. So for an actor it is a really juicy opportunity..."


Hell on Wheels season three premieres on AMC TV in Summer of 2013. Cast includes Anson Mount, Colm Meaney, Common, Dominique McElligott, Eddie Spears, Ben Esler, Phil Burke, Christopher Heyerdahl and Robin McLeavy.
