READING EAGLE: Sam Huntington muses on becoming 'Human'

It's only the third season of "Being Human," but for good reason it feels as if so much more time has passed on Syfy's hit supernatural series. Season 3, which kicked off recently, takes place 15 months after the cataclysmic events of the show's sophomore-season finale. In it, the vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer) was buried alive, the ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath) ended up in limbo and the werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington) tried to kill his maker, Ray, in order to break the curse on himself and his werewolf girlfriend, Nora (Kristen Hager).

"I think that was something that needed to happen," Huntington said, "because the stakes were so high at the end of Season 2 and the cliffhangers for everybody were so huge. It wouldn't have made any sense to start right after the end of all that. The stuff that happened, it needed to breathe a little bit.

"Basically, within that time, Josh did kill Ray," the actor continued, speaking by telephone from his home in New Hampshire. "He wanted to lift that curse for Nora, because he feels wholly responsible for her being a werewolf - as he should. Unfortunately, his curse got lifted, but the part about the bloodline and what supposedly happens when you kill your maker, that everyone you've turned is cured, was not true..."

... As a result Nora remains a werewolf, while Josh no longer is. Josh will spend a good chunk of Season 3 trying to prove his love to Nora, Huntington said, and dealing with the repercussions of his plot having backfired.

"Despite all of the horrible things that have happened and are happening, I'm trying to make things right and normal," Huntington said. "It's much the same thing for Sally and Aidan. Josh had been looking for them for the past 15 months and finally, with Nora, raised Sally from the dead. So she becomes a zombie, and he feels protective of her and responsible for her..."
