VANCOUVER SUN: Hollywood North: Continuum finds future in the U.S.

Showcase’s futuristic hit Continuum arrived in the U.S. on Syfy [on Jan. 13, 2013] and the future of the made-in-B.C. series is looking bright.

Entertainment Weekly declared the show — about a police officer who gets tossed back in time to our primitive era — a “crisp, crackerjack series” that “deserves a substantial audience in America.” Creator Simon Barry told The Sun, “I’m thrilled at the opportunity to finally bring Continuum to U.S. audiences and that Syfy is the home of the show. Not being able to watch in Vancouver, I spent the premiere monitoring Twitter and the comments were overwhelmingly positive. Now we just need to get the word out beyond the hard-core sci-fi fans and grow the audience.

The morning after his show’s U.S. debut, Barry woke up to discover that the show was also getting serious respect from the jurors at the first Canadian Screen Awards, where Continuum received five nominations — best dramatic series, best direction for John Cassar, best original series score for Jeff Danna and best visual effects for Adam Stern. Barry also found out he’d been nominated for best writing in a dramatic series for his pilot script, A Stitch in Time...
