While watching a screening of "Gone With the Wind," Damon (Ian Somerhalder) finds memories of Katherine (Nina Dobrev) from 1864 mixing in with the reality of present-day Elena (Dobrev again). Trying to prevent a tragedy comes at a high personal price for Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite McIntyre) makes a fatal error while trying to protect everyone in the suspenseful season finale, "As I Lay Dying."
