In honor of Wesley's (Wil Wheaton) acceptance into the Starfleet Academy, Picard (Patrick Stewart) asks him to come on a mission to Pentarus Five. But they're forced to make an emergency landing on a lifeless moon, where Picard is critically injured in a rock slide.

While the Enterprise is swept into the gravitational wake of two-dimensional life-forms, Troi (Marina Sirtis) realizes her powers have left her.

Data (Brent Spiner) faces the twin tasks of giving away the bride (Rosalind Chao) at Chief O'Brien's (Colm Meaney) wedding and escorting Vulcan Ambassador T'Pel (Sierra Pecheur) aboard to negotiate a treaty with the Romulans.
