Justified Ends Bloody, Again

In its third season, Justified faced the challenge of not only coming up with a generally new set of challenges and antagonists for Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), but finding a fitting replacement for Margo Martindale’s Mags, who made such an impression a year ago that she won an Emmy for what was basically a season-long guest starring role. They came close to pulling it off, as the newcomer from Detroit (Neal McDonough) brought the crazy on a regular basis. Probably too crazy to survive past this week, unfortunately.
The season finale (FX, Tuesday 10 p.m.) promises another climactic shootout not unlike the way Season 1 ended, as Raylan gets truly mad for a change. While it wouldn’t be a Justified finale without someone biting the dust, there are questions about just how many will die, or whether everyone we saw wounded a week ago is dead or not. And how about Boyd (Walton Goggins)? You wouldn’t expect him to be killed off – he’s too seemingly important to the show – but sometimes the unexpected is the best move. I look forward to seeing just how many criminals little Harlan County can harbor in Season 4...
