In post-Civil War America, a former Confederate soldier, Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), goes on a quest to avenge his wife's slaying. The trail takes him out west, to the lawless traveling town of Hell on Wheels, which follows the construction of the transcontinental railroad. Ultimately, this new series chronicles the incredible engineering feat as well as the institutional corruption at the heart of a rapidly developing nation.
