Vampire role on Syfy’s ‘Human’ pumps life into young actor’s career

Sam Witwer almost made the biggest mistake of his career.
He first passed on the chance to audition for Syfy’s “Being Human” (tonight at 9). “You talk about the show, and you go, ‘A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost,’ and then you almost reflexively follow it up with, ‘walk into the bar,’ ” Witwer told the Herald in a recent telephone interview.
A friend convinced him to actually read the script.
“I read it and thought, ‘Wow, this is incredible.’ The show has so much potential. This is an irresistible character in terms of what type of things I want to be doing with my time.
Witwer, best known for his run as the villain Doomsday on CW’s “Smallville,” was cast as Aidan, a more-than-200-year-old vampire who lives with two fellow supernatural roommates in a Boston brownstone. The actor, who grew up in Glenview, Ill., knows that some of the fans of the original BBC series of the same name are upset that Syfy is remaking the show...
