Who is bossier on 'Merlin' set, Bradley James & Colin Morgan?

In Syfy's "Merlin," Prince Arthur constantly orders around his servant, Merlin. And, not realizing that the wizard-in-training often saves the king-to-be with magic, mocks Merlin when the boy appears to have screwed up mightily.

Things are probably a lot different on set of the British import, I'd say, after asking stars Colin Morgan and Bradley James who is bossier in real life.

"Definitely Colin," joked James, who plays Arthur. "I don't think there's any doubt about that."

Replied Morgan, laughing: "Yeah. Yeah. I'll have to agree with that [just] in case you boss me around."

James went on to suggest that he's actually a bit bossy while Morgan is the epitome of kindness. (Im guessing neither one gets to diva-like.)

"I think that even if I'd never bossed around anyone ever before, ever, I think it would still be me because Colin is quite saintly in his behavior," James told me during a recent conference call with other writers. "I think he could make Mother Teresa look like a product of the devil..."

Seemingly one of the busiest actors working in television, Mark Pellegrino has brought us some incredibly memorable characters. He was the mysterious Jacob on Lost, the diabolical Lucifer on Supernatural, and Rita’s abusive ex-husband Paul on Dexter. Soon he will be vampire leader and Boston cop Bishop on Syfy’s new series BEING HUMAN, the American take on the current UK hit series about a vampire, werewolf, and ghost trying to find their place in the world.

Daemon’s TV recently talked to Mark about playing Bishop and the challenges of re-imagining a popular British series, as well as about his thoughts on how Lost ended and why Paul maybe wasn’t such a bad guy after all...

... What can you tell us about Bishop, the character you play?

Mark Pellegrino: Bishop is a very old vampire. He was turned in the 1600s in England and came over to the New World before the Revolutionary War to make his bones and his mark in the world. He has become the vampire boss of Boston. The vampire world is kind of organized the way that the mafia is, in families that govern each other. He’s become the overlord of Boston, so to speak. He turned Aidan, one of the main characters of the story, and Aidan has since had second thoughts about his lifestyle and is trying desperately to change it and I’m trying desperately to bring him back in the fold.

I’m assuming that Aidan is not the only vampire you’ve turned. What makes him so special that you want to bring him back into the fold?

Mark Pellegrino: Well, I’m hesitant to say because I want people to find out a little bit more about it, but suffice it to say that Aidan is an extraordinary character and has the brawn and brains to achieve my ends the way that I need them to be achieved, in addition to a couple of other things that I don’t want to say because I think they’ll be revealed in the show...

Everyone loves Myka Bering.

As a stunningly gorgeous super-model come Secret Service agent, Joanne Kelly is alluring, to say the least. As a goofy tom-boy, she's endlessly endearing. Put the two qualities together and you have one of the most fascinating mixtures of character on any show on TV, let alone Sci Fi.

It's no surprise that Joanne, and her partner in crime, Eddie McClintock, have created a unique chemistry, making the show the highest rated on Syfy US. Referred to as a 'thrilleromedy" by creator Jack Kenny, Warehouse 13 provides action and laughs in equal measures, as well as an intriguing look into the past that might have been.

You may have already seen our interview with Eddie McClintock, and with Saul Rubinek, but the one that gets most requested is the statuesque Joanne Kelly. We managed to track her down over the Christmas break, and we've come up trumps!

... Working on a Sci Fi show presents some actors with a new set of challenges. What's the most invigorating part of working on Warehouse 13?


JK: "Being an actor on Warehouse 13 is like walking a tightrope. There's stunts, a lot of green screen, and it can be over the top and silly at times. But the most fun for me as an actor are the bits where I get to do real scenes.

Within that crazy sci fi universe, all of the actors on our show manage to find these little moments between our characters where they connect. At the start of season one, we meet these people who are thrown together under extraordinary circumstances and through the past two seasons we really find them developing into a family. Finding those little moments- that emotional truth - is where I have the most fun as an actor..."

Having worked on both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, costume designer Val Halverson had plenty of experience under her proverbial belt when tasked with putting together the onscreen attire for the cast of Stargate Universe. There is, however, one slight difference between this series and its two predecessors in that most of the action takes place onboard the Ancients starship Destiny where our heroes are marooned. As a result of their predicament, they pretty much have had to make due with only the clothes on their backs.

“I saw that as a unique challenge,” says Halverson, sitting in her office on the Bridge Studios’ lot in Burnaby, British Columbia. “We knew, of course, ahead of time that these characters were going to be stranded on the Destiny, so for me that meant coming up with costumes that had depth as well as texture, not to mention a great look. So I just layered our actors up quite a bit, from the main cast right down to the background performers, so that they all had different looks within the same basic costume.

“That was something that I discussed a great deal with [series co-creators/executive producers] Brad Wright and Robert Cooper insofar as keeping the wardrobe interesting but still changing it up from time to time, starting with our number one on the call sheet, Robert Carlyle. We were so fortunate to get such a talented actor to play Dr. Nicholas Rush and I have to say that his character’s look has been quite fun to come up with. I began having a dialogue with Robert through e-mails before we even met, and I found out that the two of us were on the same page. We knew that Rush was a professor who was brilliant and not cantankerous but quite sure of himself..."
