Following a season finale that posted highs, the cable network is planning to renew the scripted drama for a third season.

"Thanks to the 5 million plus weekly fans (live+7). Young and older skewing alike! The call just came: SEASON 3 for #Longmire is a GO!" wrote executive producer/co-creator John Coveny on Twitter. Deals however, are not yet done.

Longmire delivered season highs of 4.4 million total viewers, 1.1 million in 18-49 and 1.5 million in 25-54 for the Aug. 26 finale, which was on par with the season premiere and comparable to last summer's freshman finale.

The second season has averaged 3.7 million viewers, 942,000 in 18-49 and 1.2 million in 25-54. Longmire remains A&E's most watched drama...
