No one can keep up with the TV king, whose ‘NCIS’ slays the competition

Mark Harmon, unlike the blowhards who’ve crowed about the ratings they were going to get but didn’t, could boast. He could gloat. But he won’t. For the 60-year-old actor, whose string of successes stretches back 30 years to “St. Elsewhere,” you don’t get to the top -- and stay there -- without collaboration.

I just feel we all do it together. No one’s more important than anyone else,” he says. In its nine seasons “NCIS” has been seen many actors and producers come and go (including creator Donald Bellisario, who departed in 2007 after a disagreement with Harmon on the direction of the show), but he thinks the quality has not been affected. The interplay among the supporting cast, which includes Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and Cote de Pablo, complements the show’s procedural elements...

... “NCIS” will air its 200th episode Jan. 31, and [executive producer Gary] Glasberg will write a special script that “speaks to the history of the show.” Harmon is intrigued but hoping to be surprised.
