Scottish-American actor John Barrowman says there’s a lot of himself in Captain Jack Harkness, the time-traveling sci-fi hero he plays on the series Torchwood: Miracle Day, which makes its debut on Starz Friday night [July 8]. There’s a lot of the character, too, in Barrowman’s little Jack Russell Terrier — fittingly named Captain Jack. “He’s as charismatic and lovable as Captain Jack,” says Barrowman, 44, who splits his time between California and London.
