Doctor Who Season 7

COLLIDER: Matt Smith Talks DOCTOR WHO Series 7 Part Two, the Show’s 50th Anniversary, the Return of Neil Gaiman, and More

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub
November 4th, 2012

At last weekend’s London Comic-Con, I [Collider] was able to participate in a very small roundtable interview with Matt Smith for Doctor Who. While many were nervous when Smith took over the role from David Tennant, I think he’s done an incredible job and I’m glad he’s committed to being the Doctor for at least a few more years...

A brief except from the transcription:

... Q: What kind of a Doctor is he with Clara [Jenna-Louise Coleman] on board?

SMITH: "Well, I mean, it’s a funny thing really, because that’s sort of an ongoing process. It’s something that you learn as you go quite a lot of the time, because obviously I don’t know Jenna when she gets the job, just like any job but this particularly where the relationships and their relationship throughout the show is so important to the story, it’s something that is constantly evolving as you get to know each other a bit better. But of course we meet him having lost Amy and Rory which were very—that was a very important part of his life. So we meet a slightly different version of him. I think being with anyone, being with a different actress, being with a different character ultimately it’s going to change you. But, it’s hard for me to articulate what that is because I don’t know, it’s not something that I’m conscious of really..."

COLLIDER: Executive Producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan Talk BONES Season 8, the Return of the Pelant Story, the Possibility of a BUFFY or ANGEL Reunion, and More

by Christina Radish
November 5th, 2012

The hit drama series Bones returns to Fox with new episodes, following highly skilled forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). While the Jeffersonian team investigates the death of a woman whose body was found mutilated and discarded in a city garbage can, Booth invites Sweets (John Francis Daley) to stay with Brennan, so that Sweets can search for a new apartment.

During this recent interview to promote the new season, executive producers Hart Hanson (also the show’s creator) and Stephen Nathan talked about how things will continue to develop between Booth and Brennan, what it will be like to have Sweets move in with them, that the Pelant storyline will return in January, how they’re hoping to add another intern to the show, what’s to come with the baby, how they’re already shaping the end of the season, and whether they’ve tried to get any former Buffy, Angel or Freaks and Geeks co-stars on the show...

... Q: What can you say to tease the ballroom dancing episode?

NATHAN: "It’s terrific! We have Mary Murphy and Tyce Diorio in it. It’s just a lot of fun. Our undercover episodes are gifts to the hardcore fans, where we all get goofy. It’s like doing shots, every time somebody says something. That’s what our undercover episodes are. We just have a good time, David and Emily love doing them. and this one’s no exception. It’s a murder at a ballroom dancing competition, and we find out in this that Booth actually taught ballroom dance when he was in college to make money."

HANSON: "Well, that’s what he thinks he was doing."

NATHAN: "Yes, Sweets points out that he was probably just a gigolo for old women. From Brennan’s standpoint, because of her phenomenal knowledge of kinesiology and anatomy, she believes that, as long as she can look at someone dance, she can replicate that exactly. I can just tell you that’s not true."

HANSON: I’ll tell you something weird about that episode. I watched David Boreanaz learn how to rumba in five minutes. He’s gifted. He’s a physically gifted guy..."

Bones airs Monday at 8/7C on FOX.

TV GUIDE: Ask Matt: USA Cancellations, Revolution Hiatus, Community, X Factor and more

... Question: Well, it seems the networks have come up with a new way to turn off viewers. Watching Fringe this season, Fox is displaying a Twitter hashtag on the screen non-stop throughout the length of the entire episode! For instance, Friday's episode had the hashtag #ShowNoMercy. In addition to being a distraction, there is also a potential spoiler-ish element to this as well. (The previous episode's hashtag was #TurningPoint, as I recall.) I watched the previous four seasons of Fringe on DVD before starting to watch this season, because I wanted to watch the final season "live." But I'm not going to want to watch other shows "live" on Fox in the future if this is what I'd have to put up with. What's your take on this trend? — Chris

Matt Roush: It's not nearly as aggravating to me as the pop-up ads, often busily animated, which clutter the bottom of the screen on multiple networks, promoting upcoming shows. When a show's hashtag just stays put along with the see-through network logo, I can usually ignore it, but when it changes along with the storyline, as it does with Fringe, it can be distracting, I suppose. Still, given how hard it can be for any show to get noticed in today's environment, especially one on the fringes like Fringe, I can't really blame them for this kind of "hey, look at me" behavior. But if they start flashing or blinking their hashtags, or anything similarly annoying — not that I want to give them any ideas — that would require a call for action...

NOVA

NOVA - PBS VIDEO: 'MYSTERY OF EASTER ISLAND' PROLOGUE - AIRS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2012 AT 9/8C

A remote, bleak speck of rock in the middle of the Pacific, Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, has mystified the world ever since the first Europeans arrived in 1722. How and why did the ancient islanders build and move nearly 900 giant statues, or moai, weighing up to 86 tons? And how did they transform a presumed paradise into a treeless wasteland, bringing ruin upon their island and themselves?

NOVA and National Geographic explore controversial recent claims that challenge decades of previous thinking about the islanders, who have been accused of everything from ecocide to cannibalism. Among the radical new theories is that the islanders used ropes to "walk" the statues upright, like moving a fridge. With the help of an accurate 15-ton replica statue, a NOVA team sets out to test this high-risk, seemingly unlikely theory — serving up plenty of action and surprises in this fresh investigation of one of the ancient world's most intriguing enigmas.
