Both were in the Secret Service, and King's days there ended lamentably when the presidential candidate to whom he was assigned was assassinated. The drama is based on David Baldacci's popular book series...

In its first year on the TV Club force, A&E’s Wyoming lawmen drama committed its fair share of infractions: its storytelling never moved much beyond its superficial crime procedural trappings to explore the show’s deeper themes, it totally wasted Katee Sackhoff as the deputy, and, worst of all, it never attracted much of an audience around these parts. As such, the head of TV Club Internal Affairs—or, as he’s known in civilian life, Zack Handlen—is placing the show on indefinite suspension, but his own sense of duty demands he check in on tonight’s second season premiere to file one last performance evaluation on an okay cop show that could have been so much more.

Want a truly brainless diversion for the holiday? This Syfy movie slipped by me when it premiered last year, starring Michael Madsen, the standout sadist of Reservoir Dogs, as the guy who has to go up against a giant snake with killer teeth... But you have to give props, if not propellers, to a snake that can down a helicopter in midflight. Similarly, you have to salute the folks at Syfy, for recognizing the idiotic purity of combining the names of two killer creatures to make a third. It’s not as easy a hybrid concoction as you might think. What’s possible for a follow-up film? Tarantulasaurus rex?

A queer geek icon thanks to her role as cocky fighter pilot Starbuck on the cult Syfy series Battlestar Galactica, Katee Sackhoff is still kicking ass, now as Vic, a Wyoming deputy, on the A&E western Longmire, which returns May 27 for a second season. Back to deep space this fall in the action flick Riddick, the 33-year-old motorcyclist opens up about her dream to do rom-coms and dress like a hooker...




... Q: You’ve played tough, butch gals in Battlestar, Bionic Woman, 24, Longmire, and the upcoming Riddick. Is America not ready to see you all dolled up in a rom-com?


Katee Sackhoff: "I joke all the time that I needed to secure an audience first before going in a completely different direction. Playing tough characters just comes easy for me. It’s not who I am in real life, so I love going to work and pretending to be something I’m not. I love all the action and confidence. But when I finally go do a rom-com, I hope my fans will support me."

Q: Do you get jealous when you watch Katherine Heigl movies?

Katee Sackhoff: "I do! It’s crazy. My fiancé actually did a movie with Katherine, and every night he came home from work I’d be like, “I’m dying to do a romantic comedy!” I read YA novels constantly, so I really want to be in a young adult rom-com, but I worry that I’m aging into the parent role, which is a little scary..."

It’s a busy time of year for Wyoming author Craig Johnson.

The scribe behind the Walt Longmire mystery series is releasing a new book, A Serpent’s Tooth, June 4th. He’s also on tour signing books starting this weekend, and the A&E television series Longmire, based on Johnson’s novels, is starting its second season on Monday.

The mystery book series, along with the television series, follows Walt Longmire, a rugged but fair contemporary lawman from the fictitious Absaroka County in Wyoming.

A&E is launching new seasons of its popular procedurals on the Monday holiday: ... and the more substantial Longmire (10/9c), starring Robert Taylor as the stoic and rugged Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire, of whom a prisoner observes, "You don't say much, but you have an unquiet mind." Not to mention a restless lone-wolf spirit, as he heads alone into the snowy wilderness to pursue a posse of escaped inmates, his search complicated by hallucinations and hypothermia.
