FRINGE - STARRY CONSTELLATION MAGAZINE: JILL SCOTT INTERVIEW

Q) So we really don’t know a whole lot about your character yet, so can you just kind of talk about that and how she’s going to play a part in Fringe?

Jill Scott: "Her name is Simone and she’s a quiet warrior. She’s a quiet warrior and she’s sort of an oracle of someone who can foresee the future. There is an integral part of Olivia’s quest, and Simone has direct knowledge of that, although I won’t say knowledge, she has an intuition about how to help her on her quest."

Q) How did you get the part?

Jill Scott: "Well, at first I asked for it. Fringe is one of my favorite television shows from its inception. I absolutely love all of the science fiction of it, the mystery of it, the science in it. The characters are wonderful and so rich. Walter, of course, is my absolute favorite, and I had met with pretty much every company, television broadcast company in America. I kept saying these are the kinds of shows that I want to be involved in. I just put the word out there and, of course, I asked for it. I believe in saying things out loud, and I had Fringe..."

Jill Scott guests stars in Fringe's 'The Human Kind,' airing Friday, December 7, 2012 at 9/8C on FOX.

REVOLUTION - MY FANBASE: TIM GUINEE INTERVIEW

December 7, 2012
by Annika Leichner

Tim Guinee is definitely no stranger in the movie and television business. He looks back on a long and interesting career and embodied many different typs of characters. Right now he can be seen as Ben Matheson in "Revolution". We talked to Tim about his work on "Revolution", his time on the set of "Stargate" and his recent visit to the University of North Carolina...

Q: You play Ben Matheson on the new show "Revolution", who we don't know very much about. What is your take on the character?

Tim Guinee: "Ben is a scientist. He loves his family and like so many people in the world today, he faces challenges in terms of keeping his business afloat. He may or may not understand the depth of the consequences of those decisions when he makes them (we'll have to see what the writers come up with), but I do think he has a deep sense of personal morality. He is, for example, the only one of the series regular characters who we've never seen commit physical violence, which is a fascinating distinction. (Even though he was perhaps involved in the end of civilization as we know it - and the subsequent countless deaths caused by the loss of power). I think on a mythological level he's interesting. Alot of comparisons are made between Revolution and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy & Star Wars. To me to put Ben in context with those works, he would be Gandolf or Obi-Wan. He sets the journey in motion. He is a keeper of great secrets, very few others possess. He is involved in bringing different worlds in contact with each other..."

... Q: You were also part of some episodes and the film of "Stargate SG-1". What was working with Claudia Black and the whole cast like?

Tim Guinee: "Claudia was hilarious and we stay in contact. I really didn't work that much with the rest of the cast. In the Stargate film I did, I had a scene with Chris Judge, who was lovely too. The scene was a quiet conversation which was the kind of thing I don't think they usually wrote for his character and I think he really enjoyed the writing that day. Currie Graham was also on the movie - who is one of the great actors around. We had a lot of fun doing the interrogation scene together."

Q: We learned quite a lot about you character Tomin but was there something you would have liked to add to the character?

Tim Guinee: "Tomin rose to great power through the show and eventually the film, eventually being an incredibly powerful ruler. I would be curious to learn whether that power would eventually corrupt Tomin..."

Revolution airs Monday at 10/9C on NBC (new episodes return in late March 2013).

NEW YORK TIMES: Good Will to All? Not if the World Ends

By NEIL GENZLINGER
December 7, 2012

On Monday Jon Stewart memorably skewered those who overuse the phrase “the war on Christmas.” But maybe he spoke too soon, because on Saturday night on Syfy, it’s Santa Claus who gets the skewering. A much more literal one.

The network, known for campy horror movies built on deliberately cheesy special effects, gives the formula a wacky holiday twist in “The 12 Disasters of Christmas,” a demented merging of a seasonal song and Maya doomsday gibberish. The movie gets an F in most of the traditional critical categories. Dialogue? F. Coherence? F. But in terms of serving as a counterweight to the syrupy fare that clogs almost every other network at this time of year, this ridiculous mess earns an A+...

Cast includes Eureka's Ed Quinn, Magda Apanowicz, Holly Elissa, Ryan Grantham, Scarlett Bruns, Donnelly Rhodes, Brenna O'Brien, Andrew Airlie, Roark Critchlow, Kaj-Erik Eriksen and Greg Kean.

SCIFI AND TV TALK: Primeval: New World's Miranda Frigon - Boss Lady

12/06/2012
by Steve Eramo

For a business to grow and succeed, it needs someone in charge who is not only savvy when dealing with dollars and cents, but also skilled at managing employees as well as handling customers and not afraid to take advantage of a business opportunity.

In Primeval: New World, Angelika “Ange” Finch is such a person. Over the past few years she has handled the daily running of micro-tech genius Evan Cross’ company, Cross Photonics. Not surprisingly, Ange and Evan became close friends, but then a personal tragedy began pulling him in another direction. Evan has since been using his company and its resources to combat “Anomalies” or cracks in time that allow dangerous prehistoric creatures into our modern day world. Despite this “obsession,” Ange has continued to stick by Evan’s side, but for how long? Her loyalty has complicated her personal and professional lives, as actress Miranda Frigon, who plays Ange, explains.

Ange is a career woman and represents women in their 30s who aren’t married, haven’t had kids and are quite ambitious, which is scarily similar to myself,” jokes the actress. “She has a hard edge to her, for sure, and she gets the job done, but at the same time there’s a softness to her. I think Ange just wants the same as any other woman wants, which is to be loved, cherished and all those things.

When it comes to her relationship with Evan [Niall Matter], ever since his wife Brooke was killed six years ago, Ange has been there as his support, his best friend and his business partner, and they’ve had this growing relationship/friendship. The two of them have been teammates, and for Ange that was almost better. In one of the episodes, she remarks that even when he was married, she and Evan were the real team. I think Ange really believes that, and that their partnership is what’s truly important..."

Primeval: New World premieres in the US on Syfy in 2013. It is currently airing in Canada on the Space Channel on Monday at 10PM.

Primeval: New World cast includes Eureka's Niall Matter, Sara Canning, Danny Rahim, Crystal Lowe, Miranda Frigon and Geoff Gustafson.
