ReelWorld Film Festival is a five day festival that screens features, shorts, documentaries, animation, and music videos from the Aboriginal, Asian, Black, Latino, Middle Eastern, South Asian and other multi-racial communities. Our vision is the creation of a Canadian film industry that recognizes and embraces racial and culturally diverse filmmakers who produce internationally competitive film, videos and new media.

The 11th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival is scheduled for April 6-10, 2011, in Toronto, Canada. Films will be shown at the Canada Square Theatre at 2200 Yonge Street (southwest corner of Eglinton Avenue and Yonge Street).

"Make A Movie Like Spike" is scheduled for screening on April 9, 2011 at 2:30pm at Cineplex Canada Square, Theatre 6.

Two young marines hold onto their dreams even in darkness.

Luis (Stargate Universe’s Jamil Walker Smith) and Ronald (American Gangster’s Malcolm Goodwin) are best friends with dreams that extend far beyond the confines of their small Los Angeles neighborhood. Ronald is a soon-to-be father and Luis is an aspiring filmmaker who’s documenting their last 36 hours at home before they’re both deployed to fight in Afghanistan.

Their story captures both hilarious and heartwarming moments at home, but when the men turn the lens back on themselves in their darkest moment in the Afghan war zone, we find that their dreams and hopes for the future mean something entirely different within the frame of the battlefield. Director and star Jamil Walker Smith’s powerful film begs us not to look just at statistics and numbers of troops deployed and casualties, but to explore the human aspects of war and the effect it can have on the people, friends and loved ones.

The 2011 Cinequest Juries were put to the task of selecting winners from over 150 films from 45 countries. What they discovered were myriad worlds that challenged, excited and surprised. Their job to find the top films was certainly not an easy one, and reaching a unanimous vote was nearly impossible because the films truly affected them in many ways and heated debates were sparked because of the passion each felt for the stories that were revealed.

Armed with dreams that extend beyond their block, Luis and Ronald, two best friends from Los Angeles, videotape their last 36 hours before shipping off to Afghanistan. One hundred days before Obama's inauguration, these young men have joined the Marines together to face the obstacles and circumstances that seem to overwhelm their passage into manhood. Luis wants to be a filmmaker and Ronald wants to travel the world and raise a family. Through the lens of Luis's video camera, they capture their friends, family members and places they call home - to remember who they are and where they come from. In their darkest hour, they turn on the video camera for the last time and document the final moments of their journey home. They soon realize that their dreams and promises of a new life mean nothing in a place called War.
