JUSTIFIED - HOLLYWOOD CHICAGO: Interview: Joelle Carter Brings Spark to FX’s Brilliant ‘Justified’
Submitted by BrianTT on March 8, 2011
CHICAGO – Joelle Carter was one of those actresses who was probably a familiar face through small roles in films like “American Pie 2” and “High Fidelity” or through a number of TV guest appearances, but it was her excellent work on the first season of the FX hit “Justified” that brought her to a new level of fame. She gave us a call this week to discuss the second season of her great show and offer some insight into the process of creating Ava Crowder, working with Timothy Olyphant, the city of Chicago, and even the long-term potential of the show...
... HollywoodChicago.com: ... When you started season two, how much did you know about the entire arc of the season? Did they give you an outline or is it more episode to episode?
Carter: Some of the actors know more. I didn’t know a lot. They gave me a map. They said, “We want this to happen. We want this to be the end result of season two.” And I was like, “OK, I love that.” But then it was a slow burn to get there. In a lot of ways, that’s the only way to do it and for it to be justified, for lack of a better word (laughs). I’m proud of the work that I ended up doing. It seemed like a lot had to happen in really small scenes but it came across. It was frustrating but it all happened the way it should [have]...

FAIRLY LEGAL - POP CULTURE PASSIONISTAS: An Interview with Fairly Legal's Baron Vaughn & Virginia Williams
March 3, 2011
Baron Vaughn, who started out his career as a stand-up comic, and Virginia Williams, who almost made the cast of the Britney-Christina-JT-era Mickey Mouse Club, have both somehow managed to wind-up as characters in a law firm on USA's new drama Fairly Legal. The show stars Sarah Shahi as Kate Reed, a lawyer-turned-mediator at a law firm owned by her deceased dad's young, hot widow played by Virginia. Standing by Kate's side is Baron's character, her slightly nerdy assistant Leonardo Prince. The series has been getting great reviews and seems to be a fan favorite for USA, but as of yet, a second season pick-up has not been announced. We spoke with Virginia and Baron in a recent conference call about the chances for season two, working for USA and the atmosphere on the set...
Fairly Legal cast: Virginia Williams, Baron Vaughn, Sarah Shahi and Michael Trucco
... A Second Season for Fairly Legal
Many actors on USA shows that we have spoken with over the last year feel blessed to be working for the network. The channel carefully considers each show before it's greenlit and they give each one a chance to find an audience and grow. And while Fairly Legal has yet to be renewed, every recent show that has debuted on USA has been picked up for a second season.
But that success does not alleviate the pressure for the Fairly Legal actors. Virginia stated, "I don’t think there’s any calm, my friend. I wish there was. You never know what’s going to happen, and you never really know why it happens so often. It is true they do have a perfect score and USA is a phenomenal network to be a part of and one of the reasons. I’m sure all of us in the cast chose to be a part of this show, and we’re honored to be a part of it, because of the great track record. You’re probably going to get a much better shot of having multiple seasons on, when you do something for USA, then you are for another network, be it cable or not. In some ways there’s a sense of anticipation and excitement in that we’re probably more likely to get picked up, but there are no guarantees in this world, and as actors we go from job to job..."
... Baron agreed, "USA is very picky with what they develop in the first place. So for them to go forward with the show at all is already a tremendous vote of confidence. Of course I’m hoping and wishing and praying, as that song goes, that we will have a few seasons. I believe Heidegger said it best, 'Just because something has happened in the past doesn’t mean it will in the future,' but you can hope and have a good attitude about it, and if it doesn’t happen then I’ll cry for a day, eat a lot of Cocoa Puffs, but I will put myself back on Baron horse and go somewhere..."

Eureka - Afro.com: Salli Richardson-Whitfield Interview "I Will Follow"
Source: Afro.com [follow link for complete interview]
AFRO.COM: Salli’s Soliloquy
March 08, 2011
by Kam Williams
Born in Chicago on November 23, 1967, Salli Richardson-Whitfield burst onto the silver screen in 1993 in Posse, an African-American western directed by and co-starring Mario Van Peebles. Her resume’ reveals extensive work since then in television, film and theater.
Salli starred opposite both Denzel Washington and Will Smith, playing their wives in the films Antwone Fisher and I Am Legend, respectively. And she happily juggles such big studio assignments with interesting independent features like Black Dynamite, Pastor Brown and We the Party.
On TV, she currently portrays Dr. Allison Blake on the SyFy Network's hit series "Eureka," for which she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Her other television credits include a starring role as attorney Viveca Foster on "Family Law "and recurring roles on "CSI: Miami", "Rude Awakening" and "NYPD Blue." In addition, she guest-starred on the critically acclaimed series, "House," and voiced the character of Elise for the animated series "Gargoyles."
Salli resides in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Dondre Whitfield, and their two children, Parker and Dre. Here, she talks about her new film, I Will Follow, an ensemble drama directed by Ava DuVernay...
... KW: Attorney Bernatte Beekman asks: What role did the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM) and its grassroots distribution play in your decision to participate in the project? Would you like to produce, direct?
SRW: I didn't know about AFFRM before I made the film. I learned about it after. I think it’s brilliant and much needed. AFFRM is a new way to distribute black movies - not just for our film, but for other quality Black indie films. They've gathered the nation's finest black film organizations together to release a first-run film simultaneously in theaters nationwide. AFFRM's I Will Follow is the first grassroots national theatrical release powered completely by community organizations. It’s a game changer, and I'm proud to be involved somehow.
As far as directing, yes! I am directing already. I helmed an episode of my show “Eureka” that will air this coming season and I'll be doing another next season. I love it and plan to direct much more...

VANCOUVER SUN: TV tonight: Stargate Universe
By Alex Strachan
March 8, 2011
The Stargate universe is about to disappear into the black hole of TV series cancelled before their time. The death watch starts Tuesday night, with the first of 10 new episodes of Stargate Universe, the third incarnation of a long-lasting series that began back in another time, in July 1997.
Stargate has been a regular fixture in sci-fi TV's space-and-time continuum since the Vancouver-filmed The Visitor and Millennium aired back-to-back on Fox on Thursday nights, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an appointment destination Monday nights on the old WB Network...
... The biggest question of them all will definitely be answered: Will these good stranded people ever make it home? Or will they, like the poor, benighted souls in Battlestar Galactica, end up on Earth at the dawn of humankind, only to have their bones dug up by paleontologists and be the butt of pop-culture jokes for years afterwards? Let's hope not. After 14 years, the Stargate universe deserves a better fate.

STAR PULSE: Q&A: Elyse Levesque Looking To Start New Chapter After 'Stargate Universe'
March 8th, 2011
by Melissa Liznick
Elyse Levesque is one of the most down-to-earth, sweet and funny actresses I've ever interviewed. And yes, I'm aware that every writer says that. But this writer actually means it.
Hailing from Regina, Saksatoon, Canada, the statuesque 25-year-old has played the role of Chloe Armstong on Stargate Universe for over 2 years, and is about to start a new chapter in her life now that the SyFy series has been cancelled.
She's looking forward to the challenges and embracing the future with a refreshing level of optimism and humility, and gave Starpulse the scoop on her career, her modeling stint and the weirdest thing she's ever done to get a role!
... SP: What's been your favorite role to date, and why?
EL: Without a doubt, Chloe Armstrong on Stargate Universe. Never before have I had the opportunity to play a character for such a length of time. It really gives you a chance to know the person and it's amazing what fun you can have when you start to trust yourself in a character. I got to go to so many places emotionally with her. It was definitely a challenge and I think I learned a lot from playing her...
