TV GUIDE: RETURNING WINTER SHOWS: WHERE WE LEFT OFF
The Walking Dead (AMC)
Premieres: Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9/8c
Where We Left Off: Rick & Co. set out to save Glenn and Maggie from the townsfolk of Woodbury, but Michonne had other plans. As the gang raced to escape the war-torn town, Michonne fought the Governor, killing his zombie daughter and poking his eye out with a glass shard. Unfortunately, Daryl didn't make it out of the town, finding himself face-to-face with brother Merle in the Governor's zombie arena. Back at the prison, comic book fan favorite Tyrese arrived!
What's Next: Look for this one-eyed version of the Governor to finally emulate the sadistic villain of the comics as he seeks revenge on Michonne, Rick and the group by taking the fight to the prison. Will Daryl survive? Will Andrea turn against the group? Both questions will definitely be answered before Season 3's end.

TV GUIDE: RETURNING WINTER SHOWS: WHERE WE LEFT OFF
Merlin (Syfy)
Premieres: Friday, Jan. 4 at 10/9c
Where We Left Off: Arthur proposed to Gwen, thus making her Queen of Camelot. Though Merlin appeared to have killed Morgana during a battle in the season finale, the dying sorceress' wounds were healed by the white dragon Aithusa, and it's safe to assume she'll be seeking revenge.
What's Next: The show's fifth and final season (most of which has already aired on the BBC and concluded overseas on Christmas Day) begins with Camelot in the Golden Age. But the good fortune will be short-lived, with the dubious return of Mordred into Arthur's inner circle and his impending showdown with Morgana. Throughout the season, the king will have to overcome evil forces all around him, which may or may not include his new wife. Plus: Will Merlin's secret be revealed?

TV GUIDE: RETURNING WINTER SHOWS: WHERE WE LEFT OFF
Justified (FX)
Premieres: Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 10/9c
Where We Left Off: Johnny ratted out Boyd, whom Raylan arrested for the murder of Devil. But Raylan's father Arlo, who confessed to shooting a state trooper, also took the rap for Devil's murder to protect Boyd. Oh, and Arlo admitted that he shot the trooper (aka "a man in a hat") knowing it could possibly be Raylan.
What's Next: While Raylan contends with the fact that his father was willing to kill him, he’ll begin investigating a 30-year-old cold case that could provide even more insight into Raylan's family's past. Boyd will be at odds with a snake-handling preacher (Joe Mazzello), whose charismatic and manipulative methods are keeping Boyd from being the criminal kingpin of Harlan. Patton Oswalt also guest-stars as Constable Bob, a high school classmate of Raylan's who lends a hand in his new investigation.

Fringe - Collider: Seth Gabel Interview

COLLIDER: Seth Gabel Talks ALLEGIANCE, Playing Lincoln Lee on FRINGE, Playing a Villain on ARROW and More
by Christina Radish
December 27th, 2012
Adding an extra layer of authenticity and intensity, the indie drama Allegiance is based on writer/director Mike Connors’ own personal experiences serving in the military while also paying tribute to the 21 million veterans living in the United States today. The story follows Lieutenant Danny Sefton (Seth Gabel), who has received a questionable transfer that will keep him safely stationed back home while his National Guard unit deploys to one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq. When the unit’s best medic, Specialist Reyes (Bow Wow), is denied a compassionate reassignment to stay home with his terminally ill son, he asks Sefton to help him go AWOL.
During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Seth Gabel (who played Lincoln Lee on the Fox TV series Fringe) talked about what made him want to be a part of this film, the type of leader his character is, how he was able to identify with the man he was portraying, what it was like to work with Bow Wow, how excited he was to have the boot camp experience, and how this gave him a new appreciation for people who dedicate their lives to defending our country. He also talked about what it was like to have been a part of Fringe, how the interest in his Arrow guest role as The Count (based on Count Vertigo from the comic book series) has been both surprising and incredible, taking on a “super-villain,” that he hopes to return for future episodes, and how inspiring show star Stephen Amell’s physical dedication to the role has been for him...
Lance Reddick, Seth Gabel and Anna Torv
... Q: Now that Fringe is in its final stretch, what did you enjoy about the journey that your character took, going from guest star to recurring to regular?
Seth Gabel: "The Fringe experience was one that really helped me grow, in so many ways. To have the opportunity to join the show just as a guest star, and then to have been asked back, over and over again, was so validating. I got to have the experience of being a fan of a show, getting to join it, and then getting to continue to be a part of it. And then, add to that that I was able to play two different versions of the character, one of whom was very confident in his body and perhaps overly cocky, at times, and then be able to jump to the polar opposite of that and be insecure and too much in my mind and not in my body while at the same time being brilliant in coming up with solutions to unconventional problems. To be able to jump between those two characters and clock in hours of experiencing those different sides of my psyche, it forced me to grow in so many ways that I had never anticipated..."

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES' HERO COMPLEX: Patrick Stewart: ‘Next Generation,’ ‘X-Men’ and Hollywood history
Dec. 26, 2012
by Patrick Kevin Day
Just before the USS Enterprise embarked on a new mission with “Star Trek: The Next Generation” in 1987, an article in the Los Angeles Times referred to the distinguished Englishman portraying the ship’s captain as an “unknown British Shakespearean actor.”
The description stuck with Patrick Stewart, who refers to the unintentional jibe during the supplemental cast reunion video included on the newly remastered Blu-ray edition of the second season of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” It’s no surprise he remembers it — his costar Brent Spiner made a point of hanging a sign on Stewart’s trailer door reading, “Beware unknown British Shakespearean actor.”
Today, Stewart remains beloved for his turn as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard on “Next Generation,” though he’s got another fantastic elder statesman on his résumé too: Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” films (James McAvoy played the younger incarnation of the character in “X-Men: First Class”).
He’s scheduled to reprise the role in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and he’s confirmed for a very different sort of project as well, co-hosting “The Second City Guide to the Opera” with soprano Renée Fleming. An evening of opera-themed sketches and musical performances penned by the famed improv troupe, the event will take place Jan. 5 in Chicago. (Anyone who caught Stewart’s guest-starring spot on HBO’s Ricky Gervais comedy “Extras” knows how funny he can be.)
Stewart recently spoke to Hero Complex by phone from New York City to reflect on his time aboard the Enterprise and his own connection to Hollywood history, though he was a little more tight-lipped about what to expect from the next installment in the highly anticipated comic book movie franchise...
... HC: Did your first “Star Trek” convention experience — when you realized how famous you had become — change your approach to the character or the work?
Patrick Stewart: "Well it was then, of course, that we had the writers strike. We were due to start shooting the second series in late April/early May and in fact, we didn’t start back until late August/September. And we were very happy and relieved to be back, albeit, we had lost Gates [McFadden]. I think at that point we were settling in for the long haul and building a body of work that was as interesting and engaging as we could make it. On the day-to-day basis, that’s what we were doing. To do a series like that, there is a bit of a conveyer belt element to it. Sometimes we would wrap an episode at 4 in the afternoon and we’d start a new episode with a new director an hour later, so there wasn’t a lot of time for reflection. The reflecting had to be done in front of the camera, and in the long, lengthy conversations I had with Rick Berman, particularly since Gene [Roddenberry] so unexpectedly and disappointingly died so early in the run of the show. I guess my conversations with Rick most locked me into the feeling of creating a specific character and a character with as much complexity we could reasonably give him..."

Jean-Luc Picard on “Next Generation,” though he’s got another fantastic elder statesman on his résumé too: Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” films (James McAvoy played the younger incarnation of the character in “X-Men: First Class”).

... 9. "Blackwater," Game of Thrones
Stannic's bid for the Iron Throne leads him to invade the Red Keep via Blackwater Bay, where the water is mysteriously set ablaze with a substance known as "wildfire." It's just the first of many triumphs for halfman Tyrion Lannister, a fan favorite for his sardonic wit and even sharper tongue. This episode also reveals everyone else's mettle — from the shared cowardice of King Joffrey and his mother Cersei to the leadership of political prisoner Sansa and fierceness of Tyrion's whore Shae. Battles are not won with brute force or sheer numbers alone. Well played, HBO...

STARGATE UNIVERSE - LET'S TALK TV: JOSEPH MALLOZZI AUDIO INTERVIEW
Stargate Universe producer-writer Joseph Mallozzi will be joining for two special episodes of Let's Talk TV LIVE.
SGU is the third in the Stargate Television franchise, and the one that real got to me. It's intelligent, dark and serious, and since I first came across it a year ago (after it had been off the air a few months), it just grabbed me and hasn't let go.
Gateworld has been hosting a Stargate Universe re-watch the past two months, and I have been slowly posting episode commentaries over on the Let's Talk TV Blog.
This week and next, Joseph Mallozzi, one of the creative minds behind the franchise (and SGU, of course) will join me live for a discussion of this series that went off the air prematurely.
SGU, the third in the Stargate televsision Franchise follows the survivors of an attack aboard the Ancient starship Destiny. The series stars Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, and David Blue.
This week, the focus is on Season 1.
Next week we'll talk Season two and also see what Joseph has coming up on his other projects. If you are a Stargate fan or are a Once Upon a Time fan curious about Robert Caryle's role in SGU, or are simply a fan of great, intelligent science fiction, then you have to tune in on Wednesday, January 6, 2013 at 9PM ET!
