The team rushes to a high school where the son of a military officer is holding a classroom of students hostage, threatening to detonate the bomb strapped to his chest. Gibbs seizes an opportunity to enter the room and becomes a hostage, and Tony takes command in his absence.

The decomposing body of a missing marine is found propped up in a chair in an abandoned house, where it was placed after being exhumed from the backyard.

The team investigate the discovery of mummified remains on a Marine base, and a new development forces them to team up with the FBI on the case. Meanwhile, the agents get mad at McGee over his novel, which features characters who are similar to them.
