Stargate Atlantis - SciFi Diner Classic: Robert Picardo Audio Interview

Source: SciFi Diner [follow link for companion article]

In our seventh episode of the SciFi Diner Classic, we interview Robert Picardo from Voyager and Stargate. Since we do a news and interview show, it goes without saying that the news portion of our episodes often date themselves fast. And while the interviews with the people that make Science Fiction happen remain relevant and in our opinion important, most listeners will not listen back 100 episodes and wade through old news just to get to the interview. So what the SciFi Diner Classic aims to do is to share these interviews with you. If you have been with us from the beginning, then bear with us as we introduce some of our newer listeners to voices from the past. We’re bringing you just the interview and nothing else.

GRIMM - BOSTON HERALD: For David Giuntoli, ‘Grimm’ role a fairy tale

By Amy Amatangelo
Wednesday, November 9, 2011

David Giuntoli was driving when he found out he had landed the lead role in “Grimm.”

He quickly pulled over to let the news sink in. “To get the lead role on a show that you really, really believe in is unbelievable,” Giuntoli told the Herald. “It felt like my life changed and everything I worked so hard for finally paid off.”

In the NBC series (Fridays at 9 p.m.), Giuntoli, who has appeared on such shows as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Hot in Cleveland,” stars as Nick Burkhardt, a homicide detective who learns he is a descendant of criminal profilers known as Grimms. Nick can see what others can’t — that the characters of the Grimm fairy tales are real. “My character Nick very barely comes to terms with this new responsibility,” he said...

Fringe season 4

Stephen Root and his real life wife, Rosy Rosemont, guest star on Fringe's episode, 'And Those We Left Behind,' airing Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9/8C on FOX

... Q) What’s it like for you to appear on Fringe for the first time with your real-life wife?

Stephen Root: "It was a great opportunity to be able to work with her. We have been able to do readings and things like that for films, but never in front of a camera. It was tremendous to be able to work together. I think the first day that we worked, was just the two of us and the director and the crew. It was a joy. It was tremendous."

Q) What can you tell us about your characters, since they also play husband and wife in the show?

Stephen Root: "Not much, or they’ll kill me. But I can tell you that they’re a husband and wife that are both scientists and have something going on in this universe, not the other one. It’s something you need to go ahead and see. But, we’re both scientists trying to accomplish something..."

Hell on Wheels 3

COLLIDER: Creators/Executive Producers Joe and Tony Gayton Talk HELL ON WHEELS

by Christina Radish
November 8th, 2011

AMC television series Hell on Wheels is a contemporary Western that centers on former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), whose quest for vengeance has sent him on the hunt for the Union soldiers who have killed his wife. He ends up in a dangerous and lawless town that travels with and services the westward construction of the Union Pacific – the first transcontinental railroad. The series documents the railroad’s engineering and construction, as well as the immigrant experience and the plight of newly emancipated African-Americans during Reconstruction, while showing just how brutal and corrupt it all was. The show also stars Colm Meaney, Common, Dominique McElligott, Ben Esler, Phil Burke and Eddie Spears.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, show creators/executive producers/writers Joe and Tony Gayton (Faster) talked about how Hell on Wheels came about, the three-year journey it has taken to reach viewers, the challenges of telling the story of their own set of characters in the historical context of building the railroad, what made Anson Mount their leading man, and just how violent the series will get...

... Collider: How challenging is it to balance the stories of these characters while telling the history of this time period?

TONY: "What we didn’t want to do was a docu-drama. We could have taken the approach where we did it all from the building of the railroad and Durant (Colm Meaney) dealing with Washington, D.C."

JOE: "And had real characters."

TONY: "We wanted to create our own set of characters, in the context of the building of the railroad. The building of the railroad, excuse the pun, is the engine that drives the story, but we wanted it to be an original set of characters. Durant is based on a real character, but we’ve taken some license with him. Although, a lot of it isn’t too far from the truth."

JOE: "The real Durant has given us great plot stuff."

TONY: "He was getting paid $2,000 a mile, so he built a crooked railroad, until he had to start speeding up because he was going to lose the Central Pacific, if he didn’t."

JOE: "When he did have to speed up, he built it really shoddy and bridges would wash out. As long as he got it approved, they couldn’t disapprove it afterwards. He would just have to rebuild it. So, his mantra was just, 'Build it fast and get that sucker down...'"

12:00 PM Precious Metal #3.18

Meanwhile, Grissom probes the death of a newly married man whose body is found in an alley.

Guest stars include Katherine LaNasa, Matt Winston, Geoffrey Rivas, Raising Hope's Garret Dillahunt, Matt DeCaro, Blake Adams, Sarah Lancaster, Katherine Boecher, Christopher Crotty and Wiley M. Pickett.

Guest stars include Charlie Hofheimer, Cyia Batten, Megan Ward, Finn Carter, Peter Dobson, Skip O'Brien and Romy Rosemont.

2:00 PM Last Laugh #3.20

Grissom and Catherine investigate the murder of a despised comic who died onstage, apparently after drinking from a tainted bottle of water. The case grows more puzzling when a 15-year-old boy dies in a convenience store after drinking the same brand of water. Also: Brass reopens a woman's accidental-death case after spotting the deceased's husband in a flashy new car with a trophy date on his arm.

Guest stars include Bobcat Goldthwait, Jeffrey Ross, Gilbert Gottfried, Bryan Callen, Alan Blumenfeld, Jeff Perry, Tom Gallop and Sandra Purpuro.

3:00 PM Forever #3.21

Out in the Hell's Gate section of Death Valley, Sara and Warrick probe the apparent suicide of a 15-year-old boy found under a bedspread. 4:00 PM Play With Fire #3.22

A woman's body is discovered in a small press box at a high-school football field, apparently the victim of strangulation. The evidence leads investigators to two convicts, one of whom is still in prison. At the crime lab, an explosion destroys key evidence and leaves Greg and Sara injured.

Guest stars include Bob Gunton, Max Martini, Luis Antonio Ramos, Rebecca McFarland, Romy Rosemont, Olivia Rosewood and The Closer's Raymond Cruz.

5:00 PM Inside the Box #3.23

Three masked bandits steal a safe-deposit box from a Las Vegas bank in a daring daytime heist. The case really hits home for Catherine when the evidence leads to casino owner Sam Braun (Scott Wilson), who is like a father to her.

Guest stars include Scott Wilson, Michael Shamus Wiles, Romy Rosemont, Gerald McCullouch, David Selburg and Jeffrey D. Sams.

6:00 PM Assume Nothing #4.1

Conclusion of the two-part fourth-season opener, a woman is found murdered in a casino hotel room with her throat slit and her husband also turns up dead in his car. The investigation is compromised by Nick when he makes an error in judgment. There is also a surprising development in the Sam Braun case that leaves Catherine worried.

Guest stars include Scott Wilson, John Doman, Rudolf Martin, Brian Bloom, Nichole Hiltz, Romy Rosemont, Falling Skies' Moon Bloodgood and Josh Holloway.

7:00 PM All for Our Country #4.2

Conclusion. The investigation into the double homicide turns up two more murders and the evidence leads Grissom, Warrick and Nick to believe a police officer may be involved. Across town, Catherine and Sara probe the death of a college student found after several days in his still-running bathtub.

Guest stars include John Doman, David Andrews, Scott Alan Smith, Paul Francis, Marisol Nichols, Lombardo Boyar, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Skip O'Brien and Andrew Leeds.

A Daily Guide To Notable Shows

... Prophets of Science Fiction

10-11 PM Science

Sci-fi guru Ridley Scott turns his attention to the genre's original masters as an exec producer and talking head on this eight-part docuseries. Tonight focuses on Mary Shelley, whose 19th-century novel Frankenstein predicted everything from limb transplants and organ harvesting to forensic science and spinal-cord stimulation. It's fascinating stuff — if only the reenactments (fuzzy and cheesy) and Frankenstein film footage (all taken from 1994's Kenneth Branagh flop) weren't so laughable. Hopefully future installments on notables like H.G. Wells and George Lucas won't feel this silly.
