A Daily Guide To Notable Shows
... Merlin
10:00 SYFY
Compared with "Game of Thrones" fur-covered, mead-swilling, myth-building coattails, 'Merlin' must feel like a perennial bridesmaid. But it's a perfectly charming miniepic moving toward its series finale, with evil sorceress Morgana Pendragon (Katie McGrath) nefariously pulling the psychic strings on Queen Guinevere (Angel Coulby). It's up to familiar icons Arthur (Bradley James) and the titular spell-caster (the smashing Colin Morgan) to save Gwen and make a run for the fate of Camelot. 'Merlin' doesn't have a huge budget (note the janky-looking digital dragon), so it must compensate with sharp storytelling, generous thrusts of humor, and surprisingly nuanced character depth—a quest it often completes with good-natured nobility.
