MULTICHANNEL NEWS: Syfy Ends ‘Sanctuary' Run After Four Seasons

Net Says It Wants To Work Again With ‘Stargate' Alums

Syfy confirmed it will not be bringing action series Sanctuary back for a fifth season.

The move was not a surprise, in that the show, starring Amanda Tapping and executive produced by her, Damian Kindler and Martin Wood, was not part of the network's recently announced upfront slate for 2012-13. Tapping recently told the blog Gateworld that the producers had released the show's studio space in Vancouver because of the delay in ordering a new season, and that the show would not have been ready to return this fall even if Syfy had renewed it...

... In a statement, Mark Stern, President, Syfy Original Content and Co-Head, Universal Cable Productions, said: "We're honored to have been part of this incredible series. In addition to garnering unmatched devotion by fans worldwide, Sanctuary was a bona fide trailblazer, setting new standards with its highly innovative production techniques -- including pioneering green screen and RED camera technology -- and Emmy-nominated visual effects. It's been an amazing ride and we look forward to our next project with Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood and Damian Kindler..."

  1. I HAVE BEEN a big fan not regarding the show of Sanctuary but of Amanda Tapping!! I was wondering WHY the show hadn't started it's 5th season it usually starts up again in MAY!!!

What are the chances of the show moving to another station??????

  2. Moving to another station wouldn't solve the various problems that led to Syfy cancelling Sanctuary. (The largest problem being, of course, the economy.) Most of the Sanctuary cast have already moved on to other projects: Amanda is directing Primeval: New World episodes; Ryan is a semi-regular this season on Falling Skies, and so on. Sanctuary lost their studio space earlier this year when they still hadn't received any official word from Syfy.

  3. Have to admit to being disappointed, but not surprised. No Eureka or Sanctuary, but Alphas was renewed. So sad on all counts. Two shows I watched were canceled, and one I really was hoping would be good, but which was pretty bad, and which I stopped watching, was renewed.
