'Laredo' the 1965 TV series that ran for two seasons on NBC, is premiering on the Encore Western Channel with a marathon on Saturday, December 31, 2011, and then will transition to daily broadcast.

A band of Texas Rangers deal with rustlers, bank robbers, and their own wild schemes, always getting in and out of trouble under their Captain named Parmalee.

The cast includes Neville Brand, Peter Brown, William Smith, Philip Carey, and Robert Wolders (who joined the series in season two).

In the past 50 years, the eastern gray kangaroo population around Canberra, Australia’s capital city, has exploded from a few hundred to tens of thousands. Forced from the surrounding drought-stricken hills, hungry kangaroos have done their best to adapt to city life, dining on city parks and suburban lawns—though they do pay a price for their meals. Each year, thousands of kangaroos lose their lives in collisions with cars on busy roads, causing injuries and property damage of more than a million dollars in the process. Overgrazing by large numbers of kangaroos has also created stress on the environment. It’s all led to a government policy of culling, and an emotional public dispute between those who support reducing kangaroo numbers, and those who are appalled by the prospect of killing this beloved Australian icon. The government’s culling “solution” has led some Canberra residents to seek out new, innovative, and kangaroo-friendly ways to regulate the surging population. Can they be relocated, or can their numbers be controlled through forced contraception?

Following the stories of several urban kangaroos, Kangaroo Mob reveals how these metropolitan marsupials manage to survive the city, and documents the ongoing debate on how best to manage them.

We love The Fades at SFX: gripping, funny, superbly written and bursting with big ideas and fantastic performances, it’s the latest in a growing list of exciting home-grown sci-fi to have us utterly hooked. ... SFX: How did you pick Mac’s [Daniel Kaluuya’] favourite films and shows? Did you have to narrow it down and think “what was I into at that age”?


JT: Yeah, to some degree. It was really interesting, there was a lot of stuff on the forums about ‘how would Mac know Mork & Mindy? Well, when I was that age, I was watching I Love Lucy, I was watching Bewitched, I was watching all that stuff. The idea that just because a show was made in the’70s Mac wouldn’t be watching it is just ridiculous to me. There were some lines cut out about how important Pam Dawber is to their world, but Pam Dawber is a goddess and is revered as such by these boys. One of the script editors, Richard Cookson, is as much of a nerd as I am, and we themed the episodes around Mac’s references, although no one would ever notice it. There are clear themes as to why Mac talks about certain things in certain episodes – I say clear, they aren’t clear, but there are reasons for everything he cites and we had a lot of fun playing with that.

There’s Wizard Of Oz stuff in episode four, ET in episode six is a clear theme running through. That’s stuff that hopefully will come out when people watch it again. There’s a reason for everything – ET I was desperate to cite if only to sat that people need to buy the three disc edition rather than the two disc edition, because people always see the wrong cuts where ET moves his hips and gets in the bath and all that. You know when it comes to Blu-ray, Spielberg is releasing the original cut, because he’s learned not to mess with the original...

ALPHAS - MY FANBASE: RYAN CARTWRIGHT INTERVIEW

Ryan Cartwright is probably best known as Vincent Nigel-Murray, one of the interns at the Jeffersonian Institute, on the hit show "Bones". He also had a recurring role on "Mad Men" and is a regular on the new TV-Show "Alphas". In this interview Ryan gives us an insight into his acting career and about working on the popular shows he's been on...



... Q: There are many characters on tv, which show some kind of an autistic behavior but are not labeled as such, for instance Dr. Brennan [Bones]. Gary on "Alphas" is clearly autistic and it is an important character trait. What was your and the writers' approach to the subject?

Ryan Cartwright: "I did extensive research into the specific type of autism that Gary has and later married it to all of my other character notes. It was all about (and still is) finding a consistency with him and making him a real individual and not a template character. He’s his own person and I think everyone has now found Gary’s voice and it makes writing for him a joy."

Q: For many "Alphas" fans Gary was the breakout character from the first season, which is largely thanks to your performance. Did you have a special feeling with this part, how he evolved through the season, that made him special to you?

Ryan Cartwright: "He had a nice arc for sure. The whole rites of passage thing for him, which has clearly been delayed and is only now filtering through. He’s still finding his place in the social ladder and amongst his peer group, to whom he was quite antagonistic to begin with, as it’s the first time he’s ever really been appreciated for his talents, and not pitied..."

THE MORTON REPORT: In the Director's Chair with Sanctuary's Martin Wood

What do Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Andromeda, Earth: Final Conflict, Silk Stalkings, and Jeremiah have in common? Why, Martin Wood, of course. For over 20 years, this multi-talented professional has worked as a director and/or producer on these as well as other TV shows and made-for-TV movies.

Since 2008, he has served as executive producer and in-house director on Sanctuary, the fourth season of which finishes airing this month on Syfy. Wood directed four episodes this year, starting with the season opener “Tempus,” in which the show’s heroine, Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), is trapped in Victorian England and struggling to stop her old adversary Adam Worth (Ian Tracey) from altering Earth’s timeline.

“This is probably the best Sanctuary episode we’ve done so far,” says Wood. “It’s set in the 1880s and is 100% Magnus back in time, in fact, two Helens — the one from the 1880s and our Magnus back in that time and hunting Adam Worth. One of the fun things about this episode is that we shot it all inside the studio, and at the last minute I said, ‘And it’s going to be raining, too.’ We had these rain wands and other pieces of equipment all set up, so that in almost every scene outside it’s pouring. Speaking of the exterior scenes, Anthem Visual Effects did an amazing job, because every time you see a wide shot of London in the episode, it’s digital. They built everything from scratch and it’s quite remarkable how those scenes hold up..."
