TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY - LOS ANGELES TIMES HERO COMPLEX: Comic-Con 2011: ‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’ promises dark days ahead

July 22, 2011

At the “Torchwood: Miracle Day” panel held Friday at Comic-Con, death from laughter was a definite possibility — even though Capt. Jack (and dozens of folks dressed like him) were in the room.

From bouts of singing to sexual innuendos, the cast (mostly Barrowman) had the full room chuckling heartily.

Not the sort of thing we usually see on the sci-fi series, created by Russell T. Davies. In the fourth installment of the “Doctor Who” spinoff, which premiered earlier this month on Starz, no one on Earth is dying and it’s up to immortal, time-traveling Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and company to figure out why.

After “Torchwood: Children of Earth” ended its run on BBC America, Barrowman was pleased when he heard “Miracle Day” was a go — on a different channel. “I thought they’d be stupid not to bring it back,” Barrowman said. “Thank goodness for Starz … here we are.

Eve Myles, who stars as Gwen Cooper, was also pleased with the comeback … mostly because, well, she likes her leather goods.

It’s quite easy to slip back into Cooper’s leathers,” she said. “In fact, it’s quite difficult to get me out of them.

Here’s some tidbits from the panel, which also featured new headliners Bill Pullman (Oswald Danes), Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson), Alexa Havins (Ester Drummand), and writer Jane Espenson. (Note: We apologize for failing to get video of Barrowman singing “Tomorrow” from “Annie.”)...

... – It’s the question every “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” enthusiast wants answered: Will Capt. Jack make an appearance in the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special coming up in 2013? “I would love to,” Barrowman said. “I would be disappointed if he didn’t appear in it … I’m totally up for it...

WAREHOUSE 13 - SCIFI PULSE: Sasha Roiz Chats About His ‘Warehouse 13’ Experience

by Ian Cullen
on Jul 23, 2011

Sasha Roiz is somewhat of a rising star in the world of genre television and his start looks to continue rising.

Fans of the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica will know Roiz best for his role of Sam Adama, but he will soon be seen in the role of Marcus Diamond in Monday’s forthcoming episode of the Syfy Channels hit show Warehouse 13.

Although its a guest role we do know that Marcus Diamond will be a recurring character throughout the season and will lead nicely onto Sasha’s other new role in the new NCB fantasy series Grimm.

SciFiPulse was recently fortunate enough to attend a conference call and got to chat with Sasha along with other websites and entertainment blogs and below is just some of the highlights from the hour long conference...

... When asked about finding the balance between playing a villain on a drama and then playing the bad guy on something a little lighter such as Warehouse 13 Roiz seemed a bit taken by the question and gave a fairly insightful answer about how he kind of tried to change his approach

Sasha Roiz: "That’s a good question because it is a little tricky sometimes coming into a show and you feel like you’re the heavy and everyone’s having so much fun around you. You know, you kind of feel like the downer at a party.

But you know, we have a lot of fun. I mean I think even in the process we just have a lot of fun you know. And, it doesn’t matter if the role or the situation is highly dramatic or comedic. But I think for myself I just have to focus on you know, my storyline and what it is that I need to execute in the scene and what it is that this character really wants in the scene.

And then you know if I don’t get the chance to engage in the comedic, then we do it in between takes and we just have fun. But it is sometimes difficult when you feel like you’re – like I said, you’re the heavy and everybody else is having fun you know, without you...

FALLING SKIES - THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: Comic-Con 2011: 'Falling Skies': 10 Things You Need to Know From the Panel

Noah Wyle and executive producers touted TNT's summer series in San Diego.

TNT's latest drama Falling Skies has a premise unlike many others on television -- and the exuberant Comic-Con crowd on Friday proved it was up to the task, stumping the cast and executive producers.

For example, an audience member asked: What if Earth was just one little part of a master plan the Skitters, the alien lifeform that has invaded and destroyed Earth, are having a war over? Or another question: How did they come up with the Skitters' anatomical structure? But of course, the session wasn't complete without references to Hannah Montana or iCarly (Drew Roy) or the Librarian movies (Noah Wyle).

Story-wise, the panelists revealed that the characters use the alien technology to aid their journey later this season, that viewers will find out why the Skitters are on Earth in the first place, things progress between reluctant leader Tom (Wyle) and Anne (Moon Bloodgood) -- and [Warning: Spoiler alert!] through a sneak peek of an upcoming scene, Hal's girlfriend Karen may not be as gone as one thinks.

Here are 10 more things you need to know about the rest of the summer series and what's coming up in Season 2...

... 7. What about seeing that invasion?: "We made a decision early on that we do no flashbacks," Verheiden revealed. "Everything we learn we learn as we move forward. There's an episode coming up that reveals a lot about Weaver's backstory. ... It keeps the show propelling forward..."

WAREHOUSE 13 - HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: Comic-Con 2011: 'Warehouse 13' Executive Producer Talks H.G. Wells Spinoff, Cast Teases What's to Come

Eddie McClintock, executive producer Jack Kenny and company discussed the Syfy drama on Friday afternoon in San Diego.

Syfy's Warehouse 13 made a splash at Comic-Con on Friday afternoon, with cast members Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly showcasing the ensemble's on-set banter to the Ballroom 20 crowd.

Executive producer Jack Kenny addressed the potential H.G. Wells spinoff, which The Hollywood Reporter broke in May, saying that the project is in "very early planning stages" but has "gotten Syfy interested in thE notion." The where and the when of the project is very much still in the works, Kenny said.

The session was light on any groundbreaking spoilers or developments, but Kenny and company (which included Alison Scagliotti, Saul Rubinek and moderator Neil Grayston) did reveal some of what's to come in the next several episodes -- and a few tricks of the trade:

... In the Eureka/Warehouse 13 crossover episode, Fargo (Grayston) tampers with an artifact that he doesn't know is an artifact, Scagliotti teased when a fan asked whether the technology in artifacts would be explained at all in the near future...
